Help with church

Post by jan44 »

:D

Hi Folks,

I have been helping someone on another site and found loads of info, I found baptisms on the IGI and the name of the church wasn't named, but looking through the site I found that the church was The Parish Church (CofE) Frodsham. Would anyone know if that would be St Lawrence?

I have the family in most census (sorry the name is Davies!) and they lived mainly in Bridge Lane or Bridge Quay.

I don't know Frodsham area at all, and I have looked on all the usual sites and come up with St Lawrence as a possible church.

after getting the film numbers etc from the IGI familysearch site, I also found theis information when I clicked on the film/batch number.

Title Parish registers for Frodsham, 1558-1963
Authors Church of England. Parish Church of Frodsham (Cheshire) (Main Author)

Notes Microfilm copy of original filmed at the Cheshire Record Office in Chester, England.

Here is one of the baptisms as an example.

IGI

Walter <Davies>
Christening: 04 FEB 1877 Frodsham, Cheshire, England
Parents:
Father: John Davies Family
Mother: Martha
Messages:

Clara <Davies> Pedigree
Christening: 03 MAY 1874 Frodsham, Cheshire, England
Parents:
Father: John Davies Family
Mother: Martha

There are a few other baptisms that I have found, but I don't want to make this too long.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks for any help anyone can give and point me in the right direction.

My freind has looked on the Chester RO site and they charge £20 plus for looking and could take up to 10 weeks to get any info!

Would just like to add that Walter Davies married in Liverpool St Davids 1902 and on his marriage cert his address was 77 Lugsdale Road, but there isn't one in Liverpool, so that led me to Widnes.

Thanks Northmeols,

I am trying to narrow down the name of the church in Frodsham for possible baptisms.

Thank you so much Carole, you are a star.

Very much appreciate the help, I can now tell my friend they will have to go to Chester RO to have a look at the baptisms on film.

I relayed the message of the birth reg to them and they have ordered the cert.

Another of the children was Reekin Davies ( I think one was born 1864/5 but died abt 1866) but there was another one born, and he survived, I found his army papers for WW1. It listed his father as John and Step mother Ellen as NOK. I have found them on census and a possible marriage for Johh Davies and Ellen Bolland, I think her hubby was Joseph and found them on census and his possible death reg.

Thanks again for the help.

Cheers

Hi Jan

You probably already know about the Cheshire Parish Registers Project but just in case - here's the web address

http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/ SORRY - JUST TRIED THAT LINK AND GOT NOTHING

I know the struggle you have had with your Cheshire Davies FH so it's nice to see it coming together

The Cheshire Parish Registers Project site seems to have been down for a couple of weeks now, I know Colette is also eager to see some entries on it. Any ideas anybody?

Thanks Carole & Mary,

My Chester family was Clarke (I have found my gg grandad (William Bishop) Clarke) although he never used "Bishop" in anything) I found his christening was in St Mary's Overton Flint on the Anc site, his brother being christened there a week before, but another brother was christened in Chester.

The Davies line I have been helping a friend find, I have them all through 1851- 1901 (not looked at 1841 yet) and I found in 1851 that there was a son-in law living with the family in Bridge Lane Frodsham, so heyo found the marriage in 1850 listing the church as St Lawrence Frodsham (on the Cheshire BMD site). Names being Ellen Davies to John Ryder, they had a little girl Ann age 6 months on the 1851, also found her christening on the IGI (written as Rider).

Thanks Linda,

I can't make head or tail of the site, it is so confusing, I had come across it before, but can't work it out.

I think the confusing bit about it is the dates but read this

YYY/MM/DD, i.e. year/month/day

so for example 5371201 would be

1537 December, 1st

The database appears to run runn from 537 to 870 (i.e. 1538 to 1870)
