Anfield Cemetery
Hi ~
Apparently I have ancestors (McQuinn & Irving) buried in a plot in Anfield Cemetery. There is a headstone, so I would like to see it. Please could anyone advise where I should phone/email in order to locate the grave.
Many thanks!

There are a couple of posts on the websites board which list sites where you can search for grave and burials. Burials, Graves and MI's and Cemetery Plans
If you have no luck with any of these links, I know the records are held at the Liverpool Record Office although the site seems to be down at present.
If you are positive that the burial is at Anfield and you have the exact date of death, it's possible that somebody visiting the Record Office might do a look up for you if you request one.

Many thanks MaryA ... I do indeed have the exact d.o.d for the two burials.
Yes, Colette those are the ancestors! Lily Armstrong McQuinn died at less than 1 year old and was buried with her grandmother, Fanny Armstrong Irving. It's a mystery where the rest of the family are buried as there would have been room in the plot for several others ... (I gather there can be up to 5 internments per grave?)
Bestest,

Hiya
Lots are in public graves so no stone ..the lady who runs the Anfield site copies Headstone inscriptions.. so if they are in public graves they wont be on there.. if you know when the others died the Records office had all burials.. you have to look through what cemeteries you think they may be in..
Good Luck

Just had a quick look at the Anfield Cemetery 'help' pages ... apparently there might well be other family members buried in the grave with Fanny & Lily - it seems that in some cases the headstones aren't inscribed with the names of all of the deceased who are buried there.
Hopefully, the info from the Record Office search will solve the puzzle!

Hi
I think that the order books /registers for the cemetery only give the grave reference for the person who was buried that day. Certainly when I looked up my great grandfather in the Anfield registers I only got a reference number for him. No others were mentioned.
I know here in Southport they give you the grave references for a name but will do a grave search and give you a list of all in the grave but there's a small charge for this (£5) last time I used it but as I got 8 names and addresses I thought it was worthwhile.

When I was searching for my grandfather's grave I rang Anfield cemetery and gave them the information....name and date of death. The young man I spoke to said it might be a day or two before he got back to me, so I made a cuppa and decided to concentrate on someone else in the family. About an hour later the phone rang and the same young man was back with the info I'd asked for
That grave is in Anfield cemetery and I have the number, but I've not been able to get there to have a look for it yet. As well as grand-dad my baby sister is in the same grave, and I hope there's a headstone so I can take a photo or two.
Lots of my ancestors were born and died in Liverpool and there are probably many more buried in Anfield but I don't have any details of them as yet.

That was a good result Lil ... I'll phone and see if I get lucky too!
If you like, I can look for your grandad/sister's grave when I go to visit my relative's? (Not sure when it will be, but I'll remember to let you know).
My grandfather is in St Lukes cemetery (Crosby) ... the office containing the burial records in on site, and the chap there is really helpful.
Bestest,
Paula.

Hi
I was looking for my greatgrandparents grave in Anfield Cemetery. I went down to Allerton Cemetery office and gave them the name and they looked it up and gave me the reference number. Can't remember the cost but it wasn't much. Struck it lucky when I arrived at Anfield Cemetery because I asked some grave diggers and they took me straight to the grave. Just thought it may be useful.

I hope the charges may be better then, Allerton used to charge £10 per cemetery per year.
