Thomas Knight/Wright Well known cricketer in Warrington? Lan

Post by olliepolly »

I'm trying to find anything at all on 'Thomas Knight' about 1895 (or possibly Wright if I heard it wrong) I have no information on him at all except , he was well known in Lancashire (warrington?) for cricket, around about the late nineteen twenties/early thirties I suppose (its all guess work) . he would have been my grandad, and its driving me mad not being able to find anything out about him!! I dont think anyone will be able to help with this one but, its a last attempt really on the off chance someone out there may just know who I'm talking about. My mums birth cert and marriage cert's are a blank where fathers name should be, so fishing in the dark really! :(

As you are aware you may never know the answer to this one as as your grandmother wasn't giving anything away - officially.

If you are just curious about the life of this man I wonder if you might find mention of him in a book Who's Who of Cricketers

Although it's probably more expensive than you'd want to pay, maybe it would be available in a library?

Thank you MaryA
this looks interesting I will indeed look out for it in the library.
Its so frustrating when the line ends at his name, all other family lines just go on and on. I dont think I will ever find him but I feel the need to keep trying know and again :D

If he played for Lancashire, or indeed any first-class match, there is a useful site:
http://content.cricinfo.com/england/con ... 21329.html.
where details can be searched under 'players and officials,
or similar:

It might well be that books are the way to find out more
http://www.aboutlancs.com/ukbooks.htm This site has a number of books listed about Lancashire cricketers, including a Who's Who which you can get very cheaply on Amazon.

Good luck

Hi Jan
Thanks for the link.
I dont know if its relevant myself, but its useful info to keep incase he turns out to be the person i'm looking for.

I dont think I am going to find out who this person is at all unless there is someone out there who it rings a bell with maybe, thats why I have put it on here and on a couple of other places too.
there is no-one left to ask on my side so i'm kind of stuck really.
thanks again
