WHERE IS E WARD?

Post by PatsyB »

I want to order a birth certificate for a William Bellas born in about 1900. However, I have 2 to choose from. One is William Francis Bellas, born West Derby which seem the obvious one but on his marriage cert there is no mention of 'Francis'. The other is William Bellas 1900 district looks like E Ward. Does anyone know where this is? Is it around Liverpool? I Don't want to order the wrong one obviously.

Thanks

Pat

Hi Collette

I haven't been able to find him on the 1901 census either. On his marriage certificate in 1922 he is just down as William Bellas the address looks like 14 Bowles or Bowler Street, Bootle. Father is William Bellas (Deceased). Fathers Occupation was Cotton Porter. His marriage was in Decembr 1922 and it's from there that I worked out that he was born in 1900. (not rocket science - ha ha)

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Tina

Wow, that's all I can say. Thank you so very much. Bill Bellas (the one born in 1900) was my husbands grandfather. I lovely, quiet man as I remember him. Worked on the docks at Seaforth. I just wish my husband had bothered to ask him questions but who does when they are young.

My son has done some research and did say that the Bellas' were orginally from Westmorland/Cumbria as there are a lot of them up there. He said that they are of Spanish descent and sailed here and were shipwrecked up there. However, I have never really believed that tale.

This information is absolutely brilliant, I can't thank you enough and can't wait for the next episode.

Wm W bn Cumberland

Post by Tina »

Good work Col!
In 1911 I spotted baby Lancelot & had a chuckle.
I wonder who he belongs to, obviously a popular Bellas name.

Middle letter W could be Wadeson according to births.
1871 there's a Sarah Wadeson with them 20 lodger.

Marr Penrith 1857 John Bellas to Sarah Turner...

1891 Sarah has a g/son Earnest Bellos another spelling to help with search. unmarried children list their birthplace as Kirkoswald.

Gotta go

Baby Lancelot is in the same household with the Williams, also Margaret age 43 and a Robert Walters age 20.

Put in this reference RD455 SD5 in the Census Reference box and in the Other Members of the Household put William Bellas and you will see them all.

PS William born 1875 definitely has Cumberland for birthplace.

Ladies

You are the most fantastic people in the whole world. How can I thank you for the work you have done. Tina, you are too far away to give you a big box of chocs but I wish I could. You also Colette. Pair of Stars.

I have struggled with data from Genes Reunited. My cousin has now given me access to his account on a site called thegenealogist.com. I haven't heard of it before but will have a go now and see what it is like.

SOLVED IT!!!!

Have just solved it .

Looked up Ivans Dad's marriage cert and his Dad is listed as William Frances. So, he must be the West Derby one born in 1900.

On another note, Tina, I found the death of poor old Lancelot. He died in Newcastle in 1901. If I had known about it being a family name I would have called my son it instead of David (ha ha) he would have loved me!!!

Thanks for all your help.

Hi All

I have now got William Francis Bellas' birth Certificate. Father is listed as William Bellas, tripe dealer and mother as Margaret Bellas, late Walters, formerly Kirwin. His birth date is 12 July 1900 but the birth wasn't registered until 27 August 1900. The address is given as 104 Brunswick Road, West Derby.

I still can't find any of them on the 1901 census. I have looked up the address on the 1901 census and a family called Taylor are living there then. I looked up the address on the 1891 census and they were not living there then.

Any idea where I can go now?

Hi Pat
Here's 1891 Margaret Walters 25, there's a James Kirwan 52 living with them.
RG12/2989/61/1

This could be the death of her first hubby Robert Walters, 38yrs W Dby mar qtr 1898.

Try again 1901.

Cheers

Hi,

Although I now have William Francis Bellas' Birth Certificate giving his birth as 12 July 1900, mother Margaret and father William I can't find any trace of them on the 1901 census. Have looked on Genes Reunited and thegenealogist.co.uk which are the only 2 I have membership of. I can't find them anywhere. Any ideas?

Hi Pat
1911 census has a William Bellas listed bn 1901, 10yrs old West Dby district.
This has been mentioned before.
It well be worth 10 credits to view family and put your mind at rest. There's also a Wm & a Margaret.

Cheers
