Hi Pauline
I noted that you needed a look up for William Atkinson's baptism. I was in Crosby Library yesterday and checked St. Thomas's, Seaforth.

Baptism 3.6.1851 Born 21.5.1851 - William son of Thomas and Mary Parkinson - Labourer of Linacre. No Sponsors on it. By H. Rawson.
In the end column it stated "Privately baptized (and looks to be Cash)
rec July 13th."

Hi Eileen, Wow! Thank you so much for thinking of old William for me! I was a bit thrown by the "Atkinson" - but saw Thomas and Mary "Parkinson" as parents! I can now go back to that side of the family and hunt further. You're a star! Pauline.

You are welcome, the Atkinson must have been a "Senior Moment" don't know where I got that from as I had Parkinson in my notes. Glad to be of help.

Thanks again Eileen, the definite birthdate will help me on my way confirming info I had on William Parkinson. I've been examining the 1841 - 1853 Ordnance Survey for Lancashire CD today. I have found the church in relation to where the family lived on the 1851 census. They had moved on by 1861 and I'm now searching for "High Street", West Derby. I get distracted by other features on these maps.....absolutely fascinating!

Hi all, I need a little bit of advice from the more experienced! Going on Eileens find, and info I already had, I sent for William Parkinson's birth cert'. This morning I received an e-mail to say they couldn't send me the one I asked for as it didn't have May 21st 1851 as birthdate. I'd presumed he'd be in West Derby area as on census returns later his place of birth is "Bootle". Do I try again but just put 2nd quarter as registration of birth? I also stated his parents names but they didn't say if I was out with them as well. Thanks for any input. Pauline.

Well since they will already be taking a proportion of your fee for searching for you, I'd be inclined to telephoning them and reminding them of this while asking whether the one in the appropriate quarter has the right parents. If you don't they will simply take another search fee.

Well....they must be making money hand over fist! I have the right one as the parents names would have been right (so the advisor told me) or they'd have told me they weren't. So I now have to give them another £3 and wait another week! Frustrating or what!

Hi all......birth cert' for William Parkinson arrived this morning. All is as I'd expected but something is bothering me. The birthplace. I've had a good old scrutinise on the Lancashire Ordnance Survey for 1841 - 1853. William was born 1851 so I found the address given......Rimrose Bank, Bootle cum Linacre. It looks to be one large dwelling - can anyone enlighten me further as I'm not getting any joy from Google. Cheers everyone. Pauline.

Jan will no doubt be able to tell you something about it, she's also a lively member of the Bootle forum, link given by Eileen above.

As for location, it must have been close to Rimrose Road, which is still there now. Taking a guess, if there are many families in the one building I would expect it to be a court dwelling. Have you read about these, Port Cities has a good narrative and photograph although it's for Liverpool, the description would be applicable to anywhere with court dwellings. http://www.mersey-gateway.org/server.ph ... rative.107

Hi Mary, just posted on the Bootle site! I'd found the family in a later census in Rimrose Road. I'd just presumed they'd lived on the stretch between Rimrose Hotel and Rimrose Bank from peering through the census page. When I saw on the cert that the address is given AS Rimrose Bank I thought I'd try and find some details. I've no idea of the dwelling types in the area at that time but it looks to be a very small village (with nice named cottages etc!) So would there be courts in that type of settlement?

Just this minute had an "apology for inconvenience caused" note. I suppose they were pretty quick on it too! I wonder how many other folk have been put off a trail by this happening though. Ah well, trials and tribulations of the ancestry hobby!
