Hi Tina
Lpool Mecury has report on what he did..
Walter Calderbank and Edward Lawrence broke into the Woodman Inn in Bottling Wood Wigan and helped themselves to a Quantity of Spirits and Eatables.. they left with a Decanter of brandy November 26th 1880..
So if he was still there in April 1881 thats 5 months the trial was in Liverpool

Cheers for that Col.
It's a good job he did the deed in 1880, earlier he would have been transported to my neck of the woods!
I love the "quantity of spirit & eatables", sounds like they had a little party all of their own, courtesy of the landlord and a take away "for the road"..
Thank you for looking in the Mercury.
I wonder if anyone knows about the records for the prison?
Warmies

I have tried to get records of Kirkdale without any luck. I think they were lost but the year I wanted was earlier so couldn't be too sure.
What I did get was a copy of the court costs . These I got from Lancashire Records office . Just checked on line and couldn't find him. May be worth an email to them to see if they have them
There was also a report on Walter and Edwards adventure! in a Wigan paper.
