Marriage look up please - Elizabeth Hankin-James Parr 1824
I ahve details of a marriage between Elizabeth Hankin and James Parr on 10 May 1824, at St peter's Chrusch Street, but Iwas wondering if anyone can help me in that- are there details of the parents of said people.
I am trying to work my way back from Elizabeth and James - but can't find details of ancestors.

Prior to 1837 the father's name wasn't given in the marriage register. You may find which parish they lived in and their occupations, and if lucky the witnesses may be relations or friends.

Hi
Just wondering if your James Parr remarried another Elizabeth..
Marriage: 24 Sep 1832 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
James Parr - Joiner of This Parish
Elizabeth Brownbill - (X), Spinster of This Parish
Witness: Mary Pinnington, (X); William Turton
Married by Banns by: Jno. Robinson, Ast Curate
Register: Marriages 1831 - 1833, Page 310, Entry 930
Source: LDS Film 93919
Just wondered incase you had found James with an Elizabeth in 1841 and incase she was a different Elizabeth to the one he married in 1824.
Was James still living in 1841 if so where ??
Regards

Cheers I saw this marriage- Yes James was alive in 1841 and living in Litherland/Sefton. I have checked the St Helens lists but can't find a burial for an Elizabeth Parr at that time
I have taken a bit of a "leap of faith" - Checking through the 1841 register I come across two Parrs in ltherland born at a time that would be commensurate as brothers - William (1802) and James (1804) - Through LDS and a marriage between him and an Agness ???? in 1830 in St Anne Richmonds, Ihave found that William's parents were a William Parr and Elizabeth Pye.
On the basis that James named his first child William and that both of them ended up as Joiners/ builders I wonder if this is a family business and indicates a family relationship.
- what do you think? am I pushing it?
I have tried checking online to see if I can find out the surname of the Agness but without joy

I think I can help you a bit here as these Parrs intertwine with my Ambroses. The church you need for more information on baptisms burials etc is St Helens Sefton. My inof is that
William Parr 1761 - 1841 married Elizabeth Pye
They had
Alice Parr 1787 she married a Baldwin
Catherine Parr 1789 - 1848 she married H Williamson. Their son Thomas married Mary Ambrose
Ellen Parr 1790 - 1849 married T German
Elizabeth Parr 179? - 1848 married Thomas Ambrose he died and she married John Garner
William Parr 1801 - 1871 married Agnes Parr at St Anne's Richmond (he is of the parish of Sephton) had a son James who went to New Zealand
James Parr 1803 - 1847 married Elizabeth Hamlin or Hankin
They had William Parr 1827-1863 who married Sarah and they had
Cecelia 1846
James 1847
Sarah 1851
Alice 1853
Margaret 1856
Jane 1858
Joseph 1860
Sefton church registers are at Lancashire Record Office. There are some transcripts etc at Crosby library. I think you will need to look at them to fill in the dates. The church itself is very beautiful and peaceful. there are lots of Parrs in the graveyard. Crosby library has a book of burials there.
Hope this helps. It certainly proves your theory is correct. I don't have anymore definite dates except for when people marry Ambroses which I could give you.

Their daughter Elizabeth was supposedly born in 1783 but on anpother thing she was born in the 1890's so I don't know!. The last son John would have been christened when the Parish records are a bit iffy for abut 5 years!!
there is a gap in their christenings start again in 1808

Also from BVRI
William Parr married Elizabeth Parr on 6 feb 1786 at St Mary Walton on the Hill
Therefore I definitely don't think the daughter Elizabeth was born 1783 I think it would have been later unless she was born before marriage!!
William Parr married Agnes Parr on 11 January 1830 at St Annes

Thanks for all this- There certainly appears to be quite a bit of intertwining between the families- Parr Ledson and Ambrose.
What I have difficulty wih is considering how successful the Parr family appear to have been with William a joner and his brother a builder- James who married Elizabeth Hankin had a very successful business - then within two generations you end up with James Parr ( b 1847) son of William Parr and Sarah Ledosn as a menial worker in the gas works in Litherland
Also, So Agness was a Parr as well was she?

Hi
Marriage 11th Aug 1830 St Annes William Parr of Litherland to Agnes Parr eldest daughter of Mr James Parr Publican Bath.
Taken from Liverpool Mercury.
I think you can claim William Parr & Elizabeth Pye as James Parents..
On to Elizabeth Hankin..

If Margaret was born in 1786 by 1830, she would be 45ish when she had last child Sarah..so it works out she was 16 when she married John Hankin
James & Elizabeth do have a John and also also a Margaret....

Cheers, this is excellent - It has helkped me take that branch back quite a bit.
My mother always told me that she had been told by her grandma that they were related to
1. Catherine Parr wife of Henry VIII
2. President Grant
I have already had to explain that the connection with Ulysses Grant is tenous, as our Grant Ancestors arrived in Liverpool from Ireland early 1800s. Grants father was born in 1792 in the USA so, any common ancestor would have left Ireland before then - trying to make the connection therefore would be difficult.
and I seriously doubt the first one!
