St Bede's Appleton - ECCLES/ANDERS/WOODS

Post by bartonaj »

Hi all

A couple of years ago a very kind lady from the Widnes FHS provided me with details of ECCLES baptisms from St Bede's Appleton between 1790s to about 1820.

Unfortunately in moving house I cannot find the records she provided for love nor money and being in New Zealand cannot find records for St Bede's anywhere locally (I did try emailing the various contacts on the Widnes FHS webpage but got no response).

Does anyone have access to St Bede's records and would be kind enough to run a look-up of baptisms/burials (if these records exist) for ECCLES up to 1840s?

If anyone could provide baptismal entries for ANDERS (particularly Phoebe Anders b. c.1818) and/or WOODS (particularly Jane WOODS c. 1786) that would be fantastic.

Kind regards

St Bede's parish records

Post by LeaHunt »

Hi there AJ

There was a thread sometime last year somewhere on here about St Bede's records. My grandmother Hunt and her siblings were at the school and probably baptised there too, as her parents may also have been.

I went to Widnes Library to check but St Bede's was one of the few parishes they didn't hold records for. The library staff weren't sure where the records are held, if indeed still in existence. I wondered whether they may be still at St Bede's? I never got round to getting in touch with the church itself.

Has no one else any clues please?

Hi, I'm sorry you didn't get a response sooner, presumably because nobody on the forum knows the answer.

I did a google for St Bede's and can find a couple of photographs of it, but no mention of where the records are kept.

There are details for contacting the church here
http://www.archdiocese-of-liverpool.co. ... idnes.html no email address unfortunately.

I made a telephone call to them to discover that the records are kept at the church and the priest advised that your enquiry would need to be made in writing to them (address on the contact page) and they would try their best to help you. No charge is made, but if you would care to make a donation to the Church that would be good.

That's brilliant. Thanks so much Mary for taking the trouble to find out, and so quickly as well. Now all I have to do is find the time to make contact with the priest and see what else I can discover!

I hope the original member who posted has clicked to be notified of your reply, so they are aware too.

Grateful thanks for the info
Pam
(By the way, my original post last year on this is under the subject Joseph Hunt, found it again later last night. It was through the forum that I found two, possibly three members related to me)

A.J. Barton's post wasn't so very long ago, so hopefully they will be watching to see if there is a reply.

I'm glad you had some luck finding other family members, that's the beauty of a forum isn't it, even google often finds entries, as well as other posters.
