Hi
I am a bit dubious about "Mary"
Looking at the 1871 image - she is May - not Mary and I wonder if the enumerator has made an error and assumed she is Bowden
1871
Margaret Chance head 35 married seamans wife b Ireland
Mary Bowden 42 married eating house keeper b Ireland
May (dittoed) Bowden dtr 17 b Liverpool

Hi
John Bowden & Mary Eustace married in Liverpool in March qtr 1846
Is it definitely the same couple on the 1851 census with son James aged 4?
There is no birth for a James C Bowden but there is one for a James Bowden
Reading that report above - it suggests that James was only 11 when he entered the USA and continued his schooling there. My impression is that the family emigrated - not just James
