Marriage, Birth, Surname Puzzle,
Can any one help with a little puzzle? I was looking for a marriage for a Peter Longton to a Janet for the approx' year of 1924 in Lancashire. I checked the Lancashire BMD to no avail. Their son Peter Longton was born abt 1924. Having checked for a birth for him I found that his birth registration was
Sep 1923
Longton Peter Mothers maiden name Sutherland W.Derby (Western), Vol: 8b, Page: 1040
Also on the same page is
Kerr Peter Mothers maiden name Sutherland W.Derby (Western), Vol: 8b, Page: 1040.
I then searched for a marriage and found that a marriage for Peter was showing as
Marriages Mar 1927
LONGTON Peter Janet D KERR Liverpool 8b 171
LONGTON Peter Janest D SUTHERLAND Liverpool 8b 171.
Can anyone help, with working this little enigma out, I am told that Janet was born in America, circa 1880. This is a query for a friend.
Thank you.

Two Marriages for Janet !!! .
1914 Dec Qtr
Janet D Sutherland to Norman M Kerr .
Toxteth Park, Vol 8b Page 361 .
This is also showing on Lancashire BMD, no church - Toxteth Park, Register Office or Registra attended .
Havent found a death in Liverpool for Norman M Kerr so could there have been a split .
I think the 1923 birth is Janet's and Peter's son, then when she was free married Peter .
Don't no the reason for the 2 registrations of the birth, only by getting the copies of both certificates will it be known who registered them .

Good stuff Doreen as usual!
Hi Sue
Anc have a Janet Sutherland in their incoming passenger ships lists to Lpool. I'm sorry I cannot get into this but I do know some of our wonderful forum members can.
Fingers crossed it's your lass.
There's also an arrival for a Norman M Kerr to Lpool.
(with names like Janet & Kerr, makes you wonder if there's a Scots connection)
Cheers
Tina

Hi Tina and Doreen,
You are right, Norman M Kerr was born in Glasgow, as were his sibling's. I do not as yet know who is father was, his mother was a Mary I or J born in Carlisle according to the 1911 census. By which time she was a widow. They were living in Toxteth Park at the time of 1911.
It does sound as though it is my lass and laddie on those incoming ship's. Lets hope sks can confirm ths.
Thank's Tina and Doreen.

Tina do you mean the one without age who came in 1920? Don't think she's right as the age just hasn't been transcribed and she's 57 years old and giving an embarkation address of Norfolk Road, Harrogate.

Sorry, the Norman M Kerr was on his own both times, once incoming to Liverpool in 1945 on the Franconia, occupation Cotton Expert, the other to Southampton on the Aquitainia in 1931, occupation Agriculturist, address both occasions 192 Grange Loan, Edinburgh.
I'm suspecting that he's the Norman Munro Kerr, who travelled often from Egypt and other places, in the earlier years giving the address as 104 West George Street, Glasgow.
His travels seemed to continue until about 1954. If you think there is a definite connection I could get more information but if not then there's too many to bother with.
