The Salisbury Sisters an old search never resolved!
The Salisbury Sisters an old search never resolved!
Greetings from Texas and me in particular. I am hoping to be able to make a trip over possibly this Summer, but in the meantime I thought that I would give it another go.
I have tried the Southport sites without anything of significance.
Monica b 1931 and Veronica b 1934 Salisbury, my mother's first cousins, both born in Flint N.Wales, ended up running a Hotel in Southport.
Time frame would have to be in the late 1950s- 1980s
This fact was confirmed when I found living relatives of my Conway branch still living in Flint, who was still intouch with them upto a few years ago. It very difficullt trying to squeeze info out of such an elderly person!!
[94yrs] who doesn't even write
Monica would be 78 years of age and Veronica 75, just a tad older than myself
Possibly someone with connections to historical Southport might be able to locate some thing- especially if either married.
I appreciate any interest in this matter, Thanking you! Joe in Texas

I tried to help on the northmeols site but could not remember the name of the hotel.....It was the knowsley hotel....I believe it is no longer there as my sister says it was torn down and condos built on the land.......I remember the ladies name was veronica and it was still there in 1980 so youo may have to contact building and zoning office to find out the owner at that time.

Unfortunately at the date any marriage would have taken place, it would necessitate searching the Marriage Indexes page by page, not just a search of the database index, have you done this?jwalker85@hotmail.com wrote:The strange thing is I can find out anything about the possible marriages.
at least one of them married for sure. Thanks Joe in San Antonio.

Dear Mary A and Northmeols. Thanks again for you kind interest and assistance!
Firstly I just rechecked the Flintshire births Monica Salisbury was born 1931
and Veronica Salisbury in 1934
So this rules out the aforementiond deaths.
I had been hoping that there was still another method for locating marriages but alas I will just have to find the time and search through the marriages long hand. Does this mean that the Lancs BDM is still missing alot of info?
Kind Regards Joe in Texas.

Hi Joe in Texas! I went to Southport Library for the first time today to get a feel for things, will be going again next Wednesday so will keep you in mind and see if there is anything regarding the hotel or even the girls themselves - Holly
got my sunglasses on because it's sunny here today !!

No.. 7664 !
The LancashireBMD site is far from complete, being transcribed as most indexing sites are, by volunteers, so an ongoing project that may well take many years.
There is also an issue over whether the registers are made available for transcribing.
You can see the coverage here http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/marrcov.html and the years transcribed for St. Stephens, North Meols ( 1869-1967) and North Meols, Banks, Methodist Chapel (1903-1955) is excellent, you can see here http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Southport/ just how many churches there are left in the Southport area.
I wonder if it will ever be complete?
To assist with major transcribing work contact our Webmaster, Peter Joliffe who would appreciate whatever assistance you can offer.

Knowsley Hotel
Hello Joe,
I live in Southport and it's true the Knowsley Hotel has been demolished. Not long ago but long enough. It was situated on the corner of Knowsley Road and Leicester Street, opposite the Promenade hospital. It had a lovely view of the Marine Lake.
There will be loads of advertising for the hotel in the Southport Visiters which are available on film in the local reference library and I'm sure Holly will be able to find something. I shall have a look in my box of memorabilia and see if there is a mention in a holiday brochure I have.
My boss is a dab hand at trawling the Land Registry sites and I shall get him to show me what to look for and then hopefully I'll see when the sisters sold the business.
Fingers crossed...

there was no liquer at the knowsley as you went in the front doors there was a desk in front of you, alounge to the right with comfy chairs and sofas and a small library of books, to the left was the billiard table and game room. in the back to the right was the dining room with full service meals then to the left was the kitchen and dishwashing and laundry rooms[ did my share of work in them too] there were a few rooms on the 1st[ground] floor for elderly guests and the most of the rooms were upstairs. the top floor was their private quarters.
