WILCOCK/STOCKWELL Liverpool/West Derby
Hi all
Am looking if anyone can identify a burial date/location for my paternal great-grandmother Ellen STOCKWELL nee WILCOCK. Ellen was born in Old Swan in 1864, the daughter of William WILCOCK. She had a brother Samuel (b. 1866) and sister Martha Jane WILCOCK (b.1870).
I believe Ellen may have died in around 1930. According to my father she was buried in a 'paupers grave' although I cannot confirm this. Her husband Edward Joseph STOCKWELL died in 1938. The STOCKWELL family largely attended All Saints Church in Stoneycroft (but I've been unable to find any records for this church online unfortunately).
Would also be interested in any further information anyone can find on Ellen's family. William WILCOCK was born in 1832, probably in Old Swan. From census records I believe he and wife Elizabeth (probably GORE) died before 1890.
Grateful for any help anyone can offer and interested to hear from anyone else researching STOCKWELLS from Liverpool area.
Cheers

WILCOCK/STOCKWELL burials
Hi Dickiesam/Emeltee
Thanks heaps for the info and suggestions.
I've actually been able to locate the graves of my great-grandparents since my original post. They were both buried at Allerton cemetery (I had been under the impression that they would be at Anfield) - a very kind soul who works for the cemeteries was able to confirm that they were in unmarked (public) graves.
Will definitely check out the websites you recommend for other relatives' details however.
Kind regards

William WILCOCK
Hi Carole
Thanks so much for the information you've provided - really appreciate it.
I have census/marriage entries for William for 1841, 1851 and 1871 so would be interesting to know whether the entry you've found for 1861 could be him (my only doubt is that he is still listed as a 'widower' on that entry whereas he had actually married Elizabeth Gore the previous year).
In 1841/51/71 William was living in Old Swan (where my great-grandmother Ellen was born). In 1841 he's at Springfield Street living with mother Martha (a widow) and siblings. In 1851 he was at Green Lane, listed as 'unmarried' and living with his aunt and sister Martha. 1861 I couldn't find anything. In 1871, as you've correctly determined, he was living at Rock Mount Street in Old Swan with second wife Elizabeth. I can't find any likely birth for a Susannah Wilcock so presume she was Elizabeth's daughter from before the marriage.
It's been quite a challenge to find much more out about the Wilcocks (the name is I guess reasonably common) - I'm not sure even who William's father was (given that he had already died by 1841), nor where William was christened.
Thanks again for all your help - hopefully as more records come online I'll finally track down more information!
Andy

Hi
You are quite right - the marriage in 1860 would preclude that being the right 1861 entry - I'll edit to avoid confusion.
