Hi Mayanbilly,
The 1860 Gore's Directory, 212 London Rd, Denton and Stoward Plumbers . Looking at the other numbers listed they all appear to be Shops and Pubs .
Also there was a John Stoward Painter & Plumber (Denton&S) 111 Prescot St .
If he is your man then it looks as if he was a Partner in the business .
Hope this helps

Would anybody with an earlier directory be able to check if it would be the same John Stoward - living in 31 Copperas Hill around 10th March, 1843 when "A Daring House Robbery" took place. Seems like he had a few bob too.
I'm on my way out in a minute Mayanbilly, but send me a pm with your email address and when I come back this afternoon/evening I'll send you the details I find.
There are a few other mentions of a John Stoward living at Moor Place, even after his death in 1851 there is another living at the same address. With an unusual name like that, maybe these are connected - Yes I think they may be father and son ...
Liverpool Mercury, 3 March, 1856
THE CORPORATION SALE - In our Friday's paper the name of the purchaser of the property in Brownlow Hill was given as Stoward; it should have been Mr John Stoward, painter and glazier of Moor Place.
Not got enough time at the moment, I'll look again later for more.

Liverpool Mercury Friday 1 May, 1857
On sale that eligible property forming the north side of Falkner Square and corner of Sandonm Street, containing drawing, dining and breakfast rooms, six bedrooms and two servants' rooms, with hot, cold and shower baths and all other conveniences - Apply to Mr John Stoward, painter &c., 7 Moor Place, near the King's Monument.
Seems this family, both John and his father John would haved had a few bob. Probably worth searching for a will for his father who died in 1851.

I think Mayanbilly needs to get access to the Old Newspapers, if you don't have a library card that allows you to search these, then please let us know as we can advise on that.

He and his wife appeared to be quite charitable, he donated £2 2s and Mrs Stoward £1 1s to the Indian Famine Fund in 1877.
and then this will help to find his grave.
Liverpool Mercury Monday, June 20, 1881.
DEATHS
STOWARD June 17 at his residence, 72 Park Road West, Claughton, aged 60 John Stoward, of Liverpool. The interment will take place at Flaybrick Hill Cemetery tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at eleven o'clock (no cards).
I don't find any entries for Hannah Stoward, had hoped to find a death entry for her too.

Stoward family
,Hi Marya and Doreen,Thanks for all that info on this subject,I hadn`t seen them till tonight so this is the first time I had to thank you both, what you found Is most interesting,my great grandfather who worked for Stoward was Harriman Burns, the same Harriman who killed his wife while under the influence of the demon drink,I posted this sometime last year,he died in Broadmoor on 27/6/1878.his wife,my grandmother was Eliza Burns,The full trial report was reported in the Times and the Liverpool Mercury.Tragic and sad but fortunately for me life went on..thanks again mayanbilly No 7226.
