From what I have learnt from you folk since I posted my query only yesterday, I am now looking for William's uncle, same name, as possibly being the White Smith, as 'my' William was always described as a Picture Frame maker, or Frame maker, all his working life.
I found my William on the 1901, along with his 3rd (4th) wife and 4 year old, I also found his daughter's marriage, but after that she appeared to disappear from the face of the earth. Emigrated? maybe.
I have much more information now should I go to the Record Office, meantime will send off for the death certificate.
