Marriage - Culceth by Winwick - 1722

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi

Not Manchester strictly speaking, but hopefully someone may be able to assist.

Looking for additional info from the following marriage

05 Feb 1722 New Church, Culceth by Winwick (or just Winwick)
Joseph Banks to Margaret Stirrup

Tracing line down from this couple through their son also Joseph Banks
married Margaret Woollfall 08 Jan 1760 Wigan (church unknown)

Trying to prove anecdotal link to an Alice Banks b abt 1808 Wigan who is a known relative.

Any information or tips appreciated
Thanks
dcheap

This is one of the 3 replies.........................

This is from the Lancashire Parish Register Society transcriptions.
Joseph BANKS of Goldborn Margaret STIRRUP of Lowton by Licence 5 Feb 1722.

I also got married in Lowton...but a lot later than 1722...and no not in that church.

I got the death cert this morning for the other William Stirrup that I had ordered but its not mine - this one is a child of 1 who died of Chincough. Parents are John & Mary. It looks like the first one I ordered must be the right one after all so I'm still no further forward re address & wife's name. This second one may still be one of my family maybe John was my Williams brother. Grrrrr!!!

hello linda
you are not alone
i too have stirrup,s of liverpool in my tree.
my fathers grandmother was harriet stirrup b1882 her parents were john b1844 and jane moore and the furthest back i got was john,s parents john b.1808 and martha griffith john and martha where missing from the census at one point but i think they must have been living in ireland as the following census one of their children is down as born in ireland.
i have not done much work on this part of my tree as yet and i thought it was going to be the easy bit
kind regards gill

Hi Gill. Ive just got a "Hot Match"fromGenesReunited from somebody else researching Stirrups from Liverpool. None of mine in though and I had a look for yours but they dont seem to match either. There must be more Stirrups about in Liverpool than I thought!! - unfortunately!! Its very frustrating

Hi Gill
Perhaps start a new thread, copy paste info I've given you, not fair on Linda.

1881 they have it right, wrong page number though.
No kiddies born in Ire aged 6 and under. No missing census so far.

Perhaps you need to go back and look again at info given to you?
RG11 pce 3677 folio 55 page 56 should be page 58.

i think we have some wires crossed
harriet and all her siblings where all born in liverpool
the generation before john stirrup and his wife martha had a son james born in ireland yet their other children born either sid of james all born liverpool one of which is harriet,s father john
1841 census HO 107/564/18
did that make sense? :?

I am still on the trail of James Stirrup :D I sent off for a Birth cert for an Alice that seemed to be the right one (b 1841). I got the cert this morning and the parents were the right ones - William & Margery nee Blundell but theywere entered as STERUP !! I also found a death for an Alice in 1843 & am waiting for that cert to come. Anyway what I wanted to ask was does anybody know a link to a map of LEEDS ST in the mid 1800's which is where they lived
Thanks

Thanks Tina. They are the right ones It was me that sent the correction. Seems strange that the census & birth cert were both spelt as Sterup tho. The Anne was Alice, got her death cert for 1843 poor thing died of Scarlet Fever

Hi Linda
Thank goodness for vaccinations these days. It's was an awful thing for the little one to suffer.
I'm hoping some of the crew will read your request about Leeds St map 1880ish.
Best wishes
