Oh My Sue

I think you may have it, it looks more like Lenin to me than Quin :D :D :D

See you are clever :D

How did you do that  :?:

I've off to the pet shop now, for bedding for pesky rabbits etc.... but I'll be back.

Well done Sue, I'll bet it's them :D

Lord better scrap that too, think I'm losing my marbles. I was going through all the Peters c1866 +/- 2 and that was one of them. Thought I'd look at the actual page as he parents were a Thomas and Mary, and low and behold, father was a Stevedore. That's too freaky!

I just checked on other Quins and the Q does look like an L :? Were they ever associated with WD?

Don't like to be a wet blanket but having looked at the Quin entry I would read it as Q that's how they often wrote Q at the time and it definitely then looks like a uin to me. I'd read it as Quin.

Sorry

Sure I knew you were all top detectives after reading through all your other impossible 'brick walls' :D . Well done Sue :D .
Wow - I never thought for a second about searching through first names though  - this opens up all kinds of possibilities for other branches too  .
Once again the Lennon name has been mistranscribed - I wish those people who looked at the original census sheets would get their eyes tested. This is definitely Lenin not Quin! Its very similar to Peter Lennon in 1901 being transcribed as Laurence (at least that began with the right letter 'L'.

Now, arguments for and against (not that I haven't already accepted this information!).
For - Thomas - Stevedore born Ireland/Mary born Ireland /Peter 5 born Liverpool.
Against - No daughter Mary A (although at 15 or 16 she may be living elsewhere) /both Thomas' age and Mary's age are two years out (I know that's nothing but was Mary only 19 when she married?).

I'll be back later when I've taken all of this in. keep up the good work in my absence gang. You're all heroes

Hi Tilly
you are correct about the Q and the L. I've checked against the 'L's in Liverpool and Labourer and they are different to that of the 'L' in Lenin.
My apologies to the near blind transcribers who I'm always having a go at - Ancestry is littered with my corrections for Lennon and they are probably fed up with my complaints by now).
When you zoom in though.....
it looks like Lenin far more than Quin.... and, I've just roped in six independant judges who, without knowing what I was asking for, all said Lenin without hesitation. (My wife even thought I'd discovered our other famous ancestor, Vladimir  .
It still looks very hopeful to me and at least gives some scope to try and get this information verified.
Thanks

Lennon's

Post by colette »

Hi all i dont want to put a damper on the QUIN but the enumerators L'S are totaly different..they curl towards the right. this letter curls towards the left..

This family either have to be in Johnson St or Burlington St.. Mary A and hubby John Gannon are at 8 court 7 house in 1881.. so it looks like Thomas and Mary followed there daughter to Burlington St if he died there in 1883..at 8 court 11 house..

I noticed you said in 1866 Peters address was 4 court then you said it was 11 court.. was it 4 or 11.. as in 1871 all the low courts are missing the street starts at number 10.

Er... me again  .
I've had to cancel the party in mid flow, having just found the Quinn family  with father Thomas - Stevedore and son Peter etc. in 1881.
 .
Carry on with the good work everyone - I'm going out to drown my sorrows. I don't know how many more times I can stand being deflated in this crazy world of Genealogy.
Good hunting

Dohhh :( I don't know now. The little loop at the top of the 'L's for Liverpool go forwards. The Q's goes backwards :? , like on this entry, but...... they don't seem curved enough to be q's :? :?

Need to lie down,

Hi Collette
sorry it was No. 4 CT not 11  (I'd looked at two copies - one is not so good which gave me No.11).
Thats all for tonight - I'm not even going to have a quick look for any more replies before I go out.
Thanks
Tony

Hi

Anyone had any thoughts on Tom Lennon in Burlington St when Peter is in 1891 - I listed it earlier in pots but may have been missed by now with all the tooing and froing

Name Age RG12 2901 29 7 -8 in 8 Court Burlington St
Henry Cowley 45 boiler maker
Mary A Cowley 37
George Dale 25
Tom Lennon 17 b-in-law- dock labourer

and as we know ...
1891 Peter Lennon b 1867 at Burlington St- 1 in 14 court
RG12 2901 31 11

could Tom Lennon and Mary A Cowley, who is actually Margaret Cowley on 1881 census, be Peter's siblings :?:

Also Lancs BMD
marriage 1888 between John Lennon and Margaret Cowley - could Margaret Cowley be Henry and Margaret's daughter or another relative and John one of the Lennon siblings. Maybe Margaret Cowley is not a Lennon and Tom is listed as b-in-law because his brother has married their daughter.

Sorry if you've all seen it and dismissed it

Just ideas to kick about especially as Tom Lennon is living in same area as Peter :?

Hi All,

For me, searching with 1st names, yr of birth +/_ 5 yrs place of birth, if known extremely handy.

Have had 2 of my own rellies.. that I have amended on ancestry.

eg:

1901 census

This name should read Oscar Fairhurst 1883-1926, my grandfather.. and does..

Transcribed as Faulsend

Oscar Faulsend
[Oscar Fairhurst]
Age: 18
Estimated birth year: abt 1883
Relation: Son
Father's name: James
Mother's name: Mary A
Gender: Male
Where born: Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Civil parish: West Derby
Ecclesiastical parish: Edge Hill St Stephen
County/Island: Lancashire
Albert Faulsend 15 should read: Alfred D'Israeli
F F Faulsend 32 should read:Thomas Nathan
James Faulsend 52
James Faulsend 26
Mary A Faulsend 53
Oscar Faulsend 18
Sarah Faulsend 19

Also, my x 3 Nathan fairhurst born 1810-1873
Transcribed as Farrhnut, to be fair it could be mistaken for that name,

Nathaniel Farrhnut
[Nathan Fairhurst]

Age: 62
Estimated birth year: abt 1809
Relation: Inmate L.pool workhouse Brownlow Hill
Gender: Male
Where born: Liverpool

If anyone looks for it, they will see why I call myself Gray
I was named after my g.mother..who I adored but not keen on her name

Have 3 christian names to choose from, one being Gray

Sorry for throwing a spanner in the works. It was just very coincidental that Thomas born Ireland was a Stevedore. It was after I posted and the kids had stopped hassling me, that I thought about checking how other Quinns Q's looked! Hence my big blunder
It's a bit like the thought on the Devitts, them having a son Peter, A thought goes through your mind that this looks interesting, and then you think of a way to double check it, and find   again

Hi Sue and all,

Searching the census is not easy
may look it.. pop in a name, dob, place..

Mine all seemed to have Nathan/Nathaniel fairhurst which look quite easy but it depends on so many factors.

I admire/ amazed how quick you lot do it :!:

Hi Tina, I think I saw that and dismissed it, because it said joiner on the premises, which seems a bit odd for me, as I normally put down something I find straight away, if it looked like a possibility. Lol maybe I'm getting disheartened by too many blunders

Hi Simone
the Cowley connection is very interesting and I would go for that but for the marriage cert. of Mary A Lennon being married to John Gannon.
I'm a bit confused about how Mary A was also aka Margaret. This has cropped up somewhere before. Does anybody know if these names were interchangeable in this era?

Hi Tina
yes I have that info. about John on file. I have a little peek at it now and again to remind me that I can't do much with it (yet). I was also reluctant to accept it because it reads that Johns's son William was born in Liverpool and not Ireland (his brother Thomas was supposed to have been born in Ireland - I'm probably being too picky here!)

Thanks all
