Petty Officer Evan Edwards
Petty Officer Evan Edwards
Thank you for the acceptance. I have done the genealogy on my Edwards family as far back as 1710. However, I have one mystery that has eluded me. My grandmother passed away in 1967 not knowing what ever happened to her oldest brother Evan Edwards. I began in earnest of researching his life in 2007 but I have become stuck at 1932. He would have been 48 years old. My trip this year to England and Wales was canceled and will try again next year 2021. So I would deeply and sincerely appreciate any help in any information of Evan or guide me to other research areas that might help.
My great uncle:
Evan Edwards
1a Prussia St. Liverpool, England
Born 14th August 1884 Aberystwyth, Wales
Father - Edward Edwards - Butcher Darkgate St. Aberystwyth
Mother - Elizabeth Evans Edwards
He severed all contact with our family when he moved from Aberystwyth to Liverpool in 1903.
Married Alice and lived at 18 Prussia St. Liverpool. (Her maiden name is unknown).
Trained on 'Spartan' 2-10-03 to 31-12-1903
Joined Royal Navy Reserve on 17th August 1904
Assigned RMS Lusitania - Seaman Rating
On Lusitania's maiden voyage to New York City the Cunard Line held a 'crews race' in the harbor using the lifeboats. Evan's boat won and he was rewarded a medal.
RMS Lusitania Sunk by German U boat U-20 on 7th May 1915.
Evan saved 84 passengers and received two medals.
Re-enlisted assigned HMS Louvain (previously Dresden)
Promoted to Petty Officer
HMS Louvain sunk by German U boat UC-22 torpedoes on 21st January 1918.
Survived and rescued. Sick he was sent to Vivid naval base to recover. He received two medals for this.
Assigned HMS Montclair until decommissioned 20th January 1932.
All of his medals were found in 2015 at a military auction where the curator of the naval museum in London bought the display. He notified me that he found them but would not give them to me or sell the medals.
I have been to England and Wales three times and did my research at the National Library in Aberystwyth. I currently live in Liberty , Missouri, U.S.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: Petty Officer Evan Edwards
Well done Bert..!! Thank you for your efforts. I would have been 6 years old when he passed away. I would have loved to have met him as I have a thousand questions about his navy life. He survived two sinkings and one being the most famous ship at the time...the Lusitania. A Greek dive club found the HMS Louvain last year while looking for another wreck. The club was going to do another dive on it again this past April but it was canceled like all things in 2020 due to covid 19. Wonderful information.. many thanks!!
Re: Petty Officer Evan Edwards
You're very welcome,
Evan/Alice marriage certificate is on Ancestry, I'm having trouble transferring the image at the moment, if you have Ancestry, you will find it, if not, perhaps someone will do it.

Thank you Blue....very well done. I do have one question regarding their two sons. If they are still living does English law state that there will be no record of them unless they pass away, and does that also hold true for marriages?

The hundred years rule relates to the 1939 Register, generally children were redacted unless identified as deceased.
