Events Prior to Civil Registration.

My 2 times Great Grandmother Elizabeth Brownbill died in Liverpool, a month before Civil Registration started on 13th June 1837, thirteen days after giving birth. The child died on the 5th June 1837 aged five days.This information was recorded in the family bible, but so far I have been unable to find any record, of the death, or burial of either mother, or the child whose name I do not have. I have trawled all the Liverpool and Lancashire cemetary records, but to no avail and wondered what other recources might be available.

I did post this topic back in 2017 and had two replies but didn't follow up for which I apologise to Mary & Hilary..

My 2 times Great Grandmother Elizabeth Brownbill, nee Fearon, died on the 13th June 1837 in Liverpool a month before Civil Registration started, aged 34 years and 4 months, thirteen days after giving birth. The child died on the 5th June 1837 aged five days.This information was recorded in the family bible, but so far I have been unable to find any official record of the death, or burial of either Elizabeth or the child, whose name I do not have. I have trawled all the Liverpool and Lancashire cemetery records, but to no avail.
Elizabeth's husband, William Brownbill and their three other children Sarah, Ellen and Edward were shown as living at number 7 Paul Street in the 1841 Census for Liverpool and I did find a burial for a Elizabeth Brandreth aged 35 years from Paul Street, in St Michael's church Liverpool on the 15 June 1837.
As yet I haven't managed to check the original record to see if mistake had been made in the transcribing, me clutching at straws !.
Elizabeth & William were actually married in St Michaels. Tom Brownbill.

Hi Bert,
I cannot remember, whether I replied to thank you for that information. If I didn't then I apologise and thank you now.
It seems certain to me that Elizabeth Brandreth, is actually my Elizabeth Brownbill nee Fearon, as it seems to much of a coincidence.
The street and age are right, and a misspelling can be common with a surname such as this.

Hi. It doesn’t matter about civil registration. Although it was introduced in July 1837, it was not made compulsory until 1874.
