Hello folks,
Just wondering if I could jog a few memories. A friend told me recently that the Taxi Club on the corner of Cherry Lane in Walton was once a dancehall/ballroom. I must get back to him because he knew the name as his parents were regulars there back in the 40s/50s I think.
Does this ring any bells with anyone? My grandparents both grew up nearby and I wonder whether they might possibly have attended. I enjoy popping down after watching Everton when I'm down from Scotland and it's wonderful to imagine my gramps getting dolled up and going for a dance there all those years ago.
Best regards,
Jamie

Jamie,
I have no knowledge or memories of it, the 1938 directory has Swainson's café.
A google came up with this,

May jog memories, hope it helps.

If you don't have any more luck, perhaps a request on one or two of the Liverpool Facebook Groups might produce a photograph.

Re: Taxi Club, Cherry Lane
My father, Cliff, was the leader of a band that used to play at dances at Swainson's. I think the band was called Cliff Day and the Knights, though he also played in another band called Casalleys. He played piano and piano accordion. Other members of his band were Archie Goldby (vocalist and drummer) and Bob Heidstrom on the violin. My uncle, Bert Brown, was MC at that time.

Re: Taxi Club, Cherry Lane
I clearly remember Swainsons ballroom although I never went dancing there. I was at Alsop High School in the late 40’s & early 50’s. Coming down Walton Village from school, I would pass the ballroom on my way home, generally accompanied by George & Les Wootten, on our way home to Graylands & Amersham roads. It’s good to note that Walton Village is nicely spruced up.
Anyone remember Willis Bakery?
