Please don't think a name change was definite, just a possible, based on the street name link.

Very likely just coincidental, but has to be investigated, reason behind my thoughts, he left the partnership with debts.

However they might have been just missed off the 1861 census and then a search for the couple together in 1871 was unsuccessful.

Between 1861 and 1871, Liverpool/West Derby, the closest match for a death, age, was,

Edward Taylor, Dec Qtr, 1869, age 45, West Derby.

Finding his burial will help, it might reveal an address and occupation, depending how the cemetery record the burial.
Age at death can vary depending who registered the death, relatives are more likely to be correct or near to the actual age than friends or institutions, they might have to guess.

Directories I use are mainly from the Ancestry collection, I recommend you look through the Family Search Post on the main forum page, there, Blue and others have put some excellent links to various goodies.

If you haven't already done so, you will have to register with Family Search and sign in, it is not Internet Explorer friendly, you will have to use another browser like Firefox, etc. Only records with the Camera Icon will open.

On this site, https://www.freebmd.org.uk/

death ages are recorded after about 1865, before this date the GRO site will provide the age.

Thanks Bert,
Very helpful stuff, so you have 2 possibles for Edward 1855 and 1869 ?
I had a disc with the 1860 Gores Directory but sadly it doesn't work on my laptop now.
I am having an eye operation on Friday so no doubt I will be limited in what I can do till its healed.
Many thanks Bert.
