Alice Mitchell b 1894 Widnes

My grandfather' sister? who is in the 1901 census aged 7 in Blackburn. She is with Ellen Mitchell aged 29 a widow. The census says sEsther is her mother, but the GRO give her mmn as Harvey which would make her Esther's sister. There is a long gap between William Mitchell and Eliza Harveys's previous child Samuel b 1884 Liverpool and Alice, born Widnes, though Eliza would only have been 40 in 1894.
I have got , as I said , Alice in 1901 aged 7 , but then she vanishes. Any help please.

Bertie one. You are a genius. Her father had died soon after her birth and her mother in 1900. I suppose that is the children who were sent to live in Canada because they were orphans. I have Anc, but not the world wide one. Any ideas where I go from here

The additional notes on your screen shot "Knowlton " and "Miss Birt" refers to a children's home in Quebec, where lots of children from Liverpool were sent.

Mrs Birts Sheltering Home was in the Everton area, if you remember my entry in a recent journal about "Uncle Joe's Story" he mentioned it as where he and his brother were placed after being picked up for loitering around the docks, the two lads were eventually sent to Canada as Home Children and their families did quite well. Mrs Birts home was in Myrtle Street, I have some photos taken from inside as I was caught up in this many, many years ago before all this online stuff when I found this place on a census microfiche. Somebody I knew who was an ex pat living in Canada put me onto a university over there where the lady matched up a lot of the names with information from their side.
