Hi all, would Liverpool library or anywhere else have any records for Deysbrook farm? My Orrett relatives, possibly brothers, seemed at different times to run Deysbrook farm, Clock house farm and Newsham farm. My mum said that my dad always used to like walking behind a silage cart when he was young. Maybe its in the blood
I notice the death of a William Orrett in 1943, I did not realise that the Orrett family were in residence for so long.
ORRETT: May 13, in hospital, aged 90 years, MARY. relict of John Orrett, Deysbrook Farm, West Derby. Service at St. Mary’s, West Derby, on Tuesday next, at 2 p.m.; Interment at Anfleld Cemetery afterwards.
I think "William Henry" Orrett whose death at Deysbrook Farm was announced in the Echo of 25 January 1943 must be Thomas Henry Orrett who died around that time. The only residents of Deysbrook Farm House in 1939 were Thomas Henry and his mother Mary.

Thanks for the tips. I'm definitely missing that family from my tree, but with an unusual name and same spelling, I'm sure they are related somewhere.
I had a look at the Liverpool archive. There are 95 entries for Deysbrook; none for the farm itself but I'm sure a lot will relate to the estate. I cannot see any pictures. Presumably the ones without a link are viewable from the library itself?
I have also just come across a John Orrett in my tree who in the 1871 census is in Brook House farm Fazackerley. They did get about! I have a John Orrett at one farm married to a Margaret, and a John Orrett at another farm married to Mary.
That Orrett family had been at Deysbrook Farm since 1881 or earlier. John Orrett (farm bailiff) born circa 1853, wife Mary, daughter Mary Jane born circa 1876, son Thomas Henry born 1881

Thanks retiringtype. They are the elusive missing link in the chain (or John is). There is another Orrett family at Newsham farm in 1861. John Orrett (farmer of ??) wife Mary age 46, daughter Mary, age 15 and John, aged 13. I wonder if this John is the same chap as at Deysbrook in 1881?
I have too many John Orretts in my tree! Family tales tell of the Orrett family from Newsham farm getting money when the land was purchased by Liverpool council. Rumour has it that they spent it on wine, women and gambling, and then some emigrated to Canada with a couple of servants. I need to hook up with some distant family relatives to corroborate the story (or myth!).
There is a document I have seen somewhere where about 10 tenants were given land on Newsham to farm, the Orrett family being one of them.
Hi again, looking at the 2 images below, both for Newsham farm, the first from the 1851 census, the second from 1861, I'm reckoning that these are the same family. In the 1851 the wife is Margaret, in 1861, Mary. Both born in Woolton, which is where Margaret Wright was born. She married John Orrett in 1839. The visitor in 1851 is Anne Wright, which seems to suggest the same family. Not sure why Margaret is now Mary in 1861? Margaret did not die until 1880, so it is not a different spouse.
Margarets and Marys can get mixed up due to Margaret often being written as Marg. Mistakes can arise in transcription and copying from record to another.
There certainly seems to be some discrepancies between the parents, not so much the children. I did wonder whether Margaret were know as Mary, but the shortened version of the name makes sense.
I have now found another Thomas Orrett, farmer son Thomas, farmer's son and Henry, son, bookkeeper in the 1881 census at Ash cottage, Leyfield Road. Think I am going to start off backwards on the male Orrett lineage and try and fathom who's who
