I have a major brick wall with this couple. I cannot find births or marriage for them,
What I know. Their children Francis b 1802; James 1804; Mary 1806; Sarah 1808; James 1811; Elizabeth 1816 all born in Liverpool.
In 1802 they lived by Prince's dock in Dennison St. when George was a labourer/ plaistorer until 1816 when they had moved to East St.
I have used Ancestry and Family search to the best of my ability but cannot find their births or Marriage. I think there is a possibility that George was born in the Isle of Man, because Cowley is a Manx name and I have been given a few ideas (3) from there but it would help to know his status at his marriage to Mary. Might it have been a catholic marriage .? I do hope someone can help. Thank in anticipation
George Cowley and Mary Mason
Re: George Cowley and Mary Mason
Hi, just a couple of questions, have George and Mary died before the censuses so no clue as to which county etc. they were born? and how do you know Mary's maiden name. Just little points and they may not be any help, but anything to help clarify might give a pointer.

Re: George Cowley and Mary Mason
I think Mary died July 1830 and buried Low Hill. I am not certain of this, but cannot find her on the 41 census. My great x 2 grandmother is Elizabeth Cowley and she married Richard Howard in April 1838, St Peter's. Marriage says she is a minor, (less than 21) Going back from this on family search Christening 1816 St Peters parents George and Mary. Also on Lancashire opc. When looking at other children to George Cowley and Mary, christened at St Peters, the children born before her had mother detailed as Mary, formerly Mason.
Elizabeths baptism does not state this and the address has changed from Dennison St to East St, but there were no othe George and Mary around at the time.
The 1841 census does show a George Cowley of about the correct age, living in Union St . He is a bording house keeper and has 2 Cowley young people living there. These on investigation are not his children as they give father as Robert on Marriage. Birth for George is given as not in county (poss IOM?) I am not sure this is him, but he died in 1850.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
ps all tha trees on anc have her as Mary Mason, but I like my own findings.

Thanks for that Blue. I had remembered the thread and investigated most leads, but little luck. My DNA matches show lots of links to Cowley in IOM and I would like to progress on this.
I have discounted most of the Mary Cowley deaths except the one in Prescot (1821) and the one in 1830 buried Low Hill, who lived in Bent st I think. That was close to Vauxhall Rd where lots of the Howards lived. (Eliz Cowley married Richard Howard 1838 . Eaton St , off Vauxhall rd) in 1841 census.)
Isabella and George from 1841 census . .... There was abaptism to George and Jane in 1829 from Edmund St (by Exchange Station) He was tailor. Age give as 20 in 1841 so if they were baptised as babies at the same time. This does not follow. My George was a Labourer.
I have a head ache Help Thanks

Re: George Cowley and Mary Mason
George Cowley b 1773 in Ballaugh, Isle of Man, with parents Thomas and Isabel Craine, was married in Ballaugh to Jane Kneale , father David's consent given. This marriage was in 1796 and the couple moved to Liverpool in 1797. Mentioned in her father's will in 1798. (Thanks to Frances from IOMFHS) . Don't think this can be mine. Might be the tailor and boarding house keeper, if they are the same person. ???
If they are not the same then one was George and Jane (IOM) who lived by Exchange area and the other was the one who married a Jane when Mary Mason died .
Further clue... Union Street, where the boarding house was, is the continuation of Edmond Street where Jane and George where living when Isabella and George were baptised in 1829.
