Hi all, on a marriage certificate from June 1873 it has a relative showing as boardinghouse keeper. His name is Edward McTague. Other records areMontague/McTigue. In the 1871 census he is living at 50 Dublin Street and his occupation is shoemaker. His name is Montague. I'm sure it is the correct family.
Would any of the Gore's or Kelly's directories identify the boarding house?
Many thanks, John

Re: List of boarding house keepers
I don't believe there is a list of boarding house/keepers, except that an occupant of a house might be given that description as his occupation. The other thing you could perhaps do is to trawl through the adverts to see if you come across him.

Re: List of boarding house keepers
I've checked through the 1870 Greens directory but couldn't find an entry with any of those spellings. Nor was 50 Dublin Street entered. I may have been incorrect saying that there was no list for boarding houses, there is a section covering Trades and Professions, however no luck under that either. Sorry

Re: List of boarding house keepers
He's not listed as a boarding house keeper around this time in Gore's but he could still have been one. There were a few in Dublin Street. He's listed in 1873 not listed in 1874.

Re: List of boarding house keepers
Thanks both for your assistance. In the 1871 return there were 4 lodgers at the address. Two were Mariners, as was Edward Montague's son Patrick James, also on the census, so maybe putting up his son's shipmates.
I cant find an entry for Edward in 1881 in the census, and he died in 1883. Patrick died in 1871 and Edward's wife in 1877, so looking for him in 1881 is a challenge. In 1861 he was McTigue; death, Montague, Baptism Mctighe, and marriage Mctague
