Hi Folks Hope you all had a good summer. I have found a marriage in the above Church in 1884 of a possible relation. Would one of you knowledgeable Folks know if the GRO certificate would show actual ages or just have "full age" etc. yappie

I suppose it could show either given that both formats were used in the 19th century. Looking at my C of E marriages from the 1880s they all seem to have the actual age. My C of E marriages from 1870s have either actual age or full. I only have one RC marriage from the GRO but that is from 1903, it has actual ages.

I do think it depends on either what the bride and groom gave or perhaps what the Registrar asked. Sadly you pays your money, you takes your chance on this one.

Is it not possible to find their ages by other methods?

Thank you Blue, Mary and Bert for you very prompt replies. The marriage took place 23/4/1844 between Catherine McCormick and Patrick Hunt both of Wright Street, Father Michael McCormick. From there they both vanish. I think Catherine may be my GGGrandmother's Sister. This family is my biggest brick wall ever they don't seem to appear on any census before my GGGrandother Mary McCormick's marriage in 1866 to Patrick Welsh and the 1871 cencus. I have everything from then on except her family who I believe came from Ireland. I think I may have to send for the GRO certificate. Again many thanks for your replies. yappie

Hi Bertieone - Thank you for those deaths. Coincidence tells me it may be Mother and Daughter so I have sent for the pdf for the Mother. Very sadly I have found another child Patrick born 18/9/1887 buried 12/10/1887 1 month at St Anthonys. I have yet to find the burials for the two Catherines. Its good to know there is so much help available on the Forum. yappie

Bertieone has anyone ever told you - you are brilliant !!! Can I be a pest and ask where the found the Anfield burials, The Mary Hunt you found I am sorry to say I found her and then dismissed her - what would she be doing so far from home? I didn't think to check deaths at sea for Patrick - perhaps I need a brain transplant. I cannot thank you enough for all your help. yappie

Follow Blue's advice, from elsewhere.

"As Bert said use Family Search for images from Anfield Cemetery Burial Registers. If you're not familiar with Family Search or the recent changes you now have to be registered and signed in to view records. It's free to register and free to use. Be sure to use a compatible browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome. Look out for the camera icon that indicates that records are available to view. Public graves (single interments) do not have gravestone markers so you are likely to see a grassed area in the vicinity of those graves and you may only have a rough idea of the location of those burials. Purchased graves (private or family plots) may have a gravestone marker you will have a better chance of locating such a grave even if there is no gravestone. A lot of gravestones have a section number and grave number on the reverse side these can be used to count along gravestones and unmarked spaces. There was an excellent gravestone transcription site on Rootsweb for Anfield Cemetery but this has been unavailable to access for some time now."

According to sources, Liverpool Catholic authorities sent girls from Liverpool to London, there's a few at St Margaret's in 1901. Also London sent girls to Liverpool.

Apparently St Margaret's was next to a Missionary School and Convent which opens other possibilities, Home Children, etc.?

I did wonder if there might have been any records online for St Margaret's, however I've had no luck in finding any. I wonder if they still exist? A local Family History Group might have some ideas of whether they do and if they have been deposited with a Record Office.

Hi Folks I thought you would like to know that I have just received the PDF of Catherine's death certificate. She died in Liverpool Workhouse of Scirrhus (Breasts) which I believe to be Breast Cancer. So sad such young Mum. I should received baby Catherine's certificate on Thursday. Once again thank you for all your help. yappie

Hi Folks - A surprise today with the download of Baby Catherine's death certificate. It wasn't due until tomorrow. It states she died of Marasmus 15/08/1890. Father Patrick Hunt labourer. I have found a Patrick Hunt who died in the Workhouse in 1893. What a very tragic family if this is the case. I am indebted to you for all your help. yappie

There's an 1892 Liverpool Workhouse entry for a Patrick Hunt, aged 46, that could be the man you mentioned who died in 1893, this names his wife as Mary and they lived in Pepper Street:-

If you are having access problems with Family Search it could be down to the browser you are using. Are you using Internet Explorer? You need to use something like Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari. You could try the "Forgot your username or password?" see if that helps or if all these fail try to create a new account.
