Swinbank family

Hi all,
I'm interested in finding out more about a great grandfather of mine : Thomas Swinbank , born in Hawkswick North Yorkshire but resident in 64 Albion Street,Liverpool in the 1881 census along with mother Isabella and rest of family . I believe they were involved in cattle droving originally from the Dent /Sedburgh N Yorks area over to Liverpool and then down the welsh borders . He was 19 on the 1881 census and his occupation was cowman . I believe from a contact sometime ago , though now lost touch with , that he may be buried in Anfield cemetery in Liverpool. He died I think in 1891 possibly December . I was wondering if any of your members might be able to help with my search . I live in Ulverston in Cumbria but am visiting Liverpool in September .

Thanks for that and the info about the transcribing error . Thomas died a few months before my grandfather ( also Thomas ) was born . His mother originally Sarah Parry died young too ..in 1897 I think . Don't suppose you can suggest any further ways of finding out more about this family? Thanks for your help .

Thomas' father was Septimus who also died in Liverpool (1875) and is prob also buried in Anfield .There are probably other relatives buried there . How do you access the burial records ? Do you think it will be relatively straightforward to find the graves in Anfield when I visit ?
Thanks for all your help . I guess I'm mainly trying to fill out my picture of the family's life in Liverpool . Though I'm particularly interested in my great grandfather's relationship with Sarah Parry who he met in Hereford and also why they both died so young .

You will probably have to register to view images, it's not IE friendly, you will need a different browser if you are using IE.

The death certificates will reveal how they died.

Sorry can't comment on Anfield Cemetery, others will advise.

As Bert said use Family Search for images from Anfield Cemetery Burial Registers. If you're not familiar with Family Search or the recent changes you now have to be registered and signed in to view records. It's free to register and free to use. Be sure to use a compatible browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome. Look out for the camera icon that indicates that records are available to view. Public graves (single interments) do not have gravestone markers so you are likely to see a grassed area in the vicinity of those graves and you may only have a rough idea of the location of those burials. Purchased graves (private or family plots) may have a gravestone marker you will have a better chance of locating such a grave even if there is no gravestone. A lot of gravestones have a section number and grave number on the reverse side these can be used to count along gravestones and unmarked spaces. There was an excellent gravestone transcription site on Rootsweb for Anfield Cemetery but this has been unavailable to access for some time now.

Section 10, Grave 284 doesn't sound like a General grave to me, there were no others on the page, so I would think it was a private/purchased grave. We are very grateful to Blue for these links to the Familysearch site as the Burial Registers are currently offsite from the Record Office, being scanned by Ancestry and won't be back until later in October.
