St. James Bootle

Post by mtabbut »

Hello,
I've been wondering if the parish records from St. James, Bootle are on Ancestry.com. I have no luck at all finding my family members that were baptized or married there even though I have paper copies of the events. Just curious as I feel like I must be doing something wrong on Ancestry. I have had great success with other Liverpool churches on Ancestry. Thanks.

Hi

Welcome to the forum. This RC church was not included in the Liverpool RC collection on Ancestry nor is it on Family Search.

The records for this church are at the Liverpool Record Office. Are you familiar with Liverpool History Projects website? Before the RC records appeared on Ancestry it was a useful source of RC baptisms and marriages. It no longer provides a service but the indexes are still on the website although it can sometimes be problematic getting around the site. If you look for example at the baptisms on there they have some for St James with the reference 282-JMB ... this is the reference for St James Bootle. LHP may be useful to you as a reference then maybe visit the Liverpool Record Office if you need copies of any records.

Blue,
Thank you so much. I thought that I was missing something. Good to know that the records are not there. Thanks for that link. I'm going to have a good look at it and see what I can plan out for when I come over in August.
Again, thank you so much,
Maureen

Hi Maureen

St James has a website, with a 'contact us' section (or it did when I contacted them)! I emailed and asked my question, I don't know whether it was the Priest or someone else, but they answered my query, albeit to say there was nothing I asked about.

Worth a try before you travel

all the best
