Thanks for that Mary. Presumably the age 77 was entered incorrectly and subsequently amended to the correct age of 71.

This evening I have received back the copy PDF from the GRO (very quick turnaround) of Walter Smith's birth, and good news, it it the correct Walter.

Same address as on the 1911 census. Weird that this was the third child of Clifford's, and as mentioned before, by three different women, all with the christian name of Alice!

I've mentioned this before, you need sight of the original signatures of the informants on all 3 birth certificates, Alice Smith, mother.

I don't know having not informed on the birth of a child, does the informant sign the birth certificate placed before them, or is another document signed and then the information is transferred to the Birth cert? on the day of registration.

John,
Fire off an Email to the GRO asking where the original documents are held with the original signatures of the informants at birth registration.
Inform them you need to compare the 3 original signatures of the informants on the 3 certificates you have, give them the details.

I'm assuming, I think correctly, that Kirkdale would have come under Brougham Terrace in which case they would be at St George's Hall. If you wanted to bypass the GRO you could just ask them, otherwise it would be Bootle, and I suspect they would also have been lodged in Liverpool.

Using Lancsbmd if you find the entry http://www.ukbmdcertificateordering.co. ... L%7C&lang=
and click the Order Online button then view the Start Online Order Process, it gives Liverpool as the place where the Registers are.

Thanks again both. I've gone to Lancs BMD website and entered all 3 children.

George and Walter shows sub district Kirkdale, registers at Liverpool, Ref KIRK, and Dora sub district West Derby Eastern, registers at Liverpool, Ref WDE.

Would these be available to view by booking in to the Liverpool Records Office in the library, or St George's Hall as mentioned?

Births are never available to view, which is why we so often rely on baptisms if they give sufficient information to stand in place of a birth certificate, which are only available either from a local Register office or the GRO.
