Missing from Censii

Post by LukeJ »

My great grandfather is missing from 1891 census
But is on the 1881 and 1901. Is this normal?

He would have been 19. Could it be prison? He probably wouldn't have been abroad. :?:

I fequently have people or families missing from 1 census and then reappearing. Could you find the rest of the family, or are they all missing. If the latter they may have been mistranscibed. If the former he may be in an institution, but would still be entered (possibly only with initials), or he may be a servant or labourer with another family. If you put some details , there are people on this site who perform miracles by finding people. Good luck. Lynne

We could certainly try to help, however the 1891 census is notorious for missing pages and areas. The National Archives have offered information on this that could help http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help ... s-records/

Thanks, just.one of those little mysteries. Its probably illegible or misspelled somewhere.
his name is joshua william jones born 1891 in Birkenhead, the family moved to Liverpool in 1870s. All the rest of family are in 1891 census, only one younger brother. Nothing coming up in searches..i've tried 'william' too but can't find a match.
Thanks Mary I'll check that now

1881 census info
Class: RG11; Piece: 3706; Folio: 8; Page: 10; GSU roll: 1341887 (ancestry)

1891 census info
The National Archives of the UK (TNA); Kew, Surrey, England; Class: RG12; Piece: 2992; Folio: 117; Page: 9 (ancestry)

He's listed on liverpool electoral roll @ 20 coleridge st, 1894..same street as the family on 1891 census but 1891 there's Another family at that address. He was a confectioner. Family in the pub trade.

If you can't find him on Ancestry, try Find My Past, their transcriptions are better.
