trying to find the name of a public house, that was on the corner of berry st/ knight st , about 1955, on the opposite corner was a blackledges (who remembers them)cake shop.

The nearest directory I have is 1938

On 33 & 35 Berry Street is "Neptune" P.H. Joseph Allen (Knight St)

Looking for any other pubs on Knight Street there is 35 "Grapes" P.H. Mrs Florence May Threlkeld (Roscoe St)

No other pubs listed on Knight Street, there may be plenty more on Berry Street, obviously a much longer street.

Kelly's 1968 has the Grapes at 33 Knight Street, and there was the Masonic Arms at 21/23 Berry Street, with Webb, car agents at 27/31 on corner of Knight Street. County Bake Shops at 37 Berry St on the other corner (perhaps successors to Blackledges). [The directories did not always mark the side roads in the right place.]

From the description "Neptune" seems to be the right one. It appears on early 1950s maps but there doesn't seem to be a pub there on later maps.
