Civilian war death, overseas, WW2

Post by daggers »

I have been pursuing Hugh Young, a merchant seaman, whose death I cannot find. He was born in Scotland in 1892 (although some sources say Liverpool) and I have tracked his Merchant Navy ships via FMP as far as 1934. He had family in Liverpool.
I have come across his name, but with only the same year of birth, among CWGC's civilian war deaths of 1942, in Malaya, but there is no other detail.
I am not familiar with getting this type of death certificate and would welcome advice from our resident experts.

I can see that he died on June 2, 1942 at Singapore. Presumably he was interned at Changi.

There is a project to digitise the Changi civilian registers but it doesn't seem to have been published online yet: https://specialcollections-blog.lib.cam.ac.uk/?p=11086

Thanks for that link. I have only the name and matching year of birth so far,but it may be useful once I find out how to get the certificate.

I don't think there is any "certificate" to get in these circumstances.

This could be the digitised internment camp register http://cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/view/MS-RCMS- ... 12-00022/1
