Children of John and Margaret Parkinson (nee Pringle)
Can members help please John and Margaret married in 1850 (liverpool Sept Qtr). They had three children, Hannah (b1855), Margaret (b1857) and Emma (b1861Sept Qtr). I have found the marriages and children for Hannah and Margaret. I thought I had found Emma's marriage West derby 1886 June Qtr to William James Higgins. Ages, names and address looked right. Subsequent investigation shows this might be wrong particularly as Emma does not appear on the 1861 census with mother and the two elder daughters. Perhaps Emma died. Any assistance will be welcome.
Re: Children of John and Margaret Parkinson (nee Pringle)
The 1861 census was taken on the night of 7/8 April so Emma wouldn't have been born then.

Mary - Of course. What I intended to say was the 1881 census for 23 Dodge st when her sisters Hannah and Margaret appeared as step daughters to their mother's second husband Wm Smith and their children Wm H, Elizabeth and Thomas P Smith. Her absence makes me fear she had died. - Peter

Mary - I forgot to say I could not find the family at all on the 1871 census - Peter

Here is the family in 1871:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/sea ... id=1538354
Emma is there but listed as Emma Smith. It looks like Margaret Parkinson married William Smith in Q3 1862 so John Parkinson must have died very soon after Emma was born.

Re: Children of John and Margaret Parkinson (nee Pringle)
Thanks for replies.
Alison - Without delving through my chaotic records for certainty, I seem to recollect that John Parkinson died before Emma was born. As her mother Margaret had married or was about to marry William Smith I can well understand her being known as a Smith. GRO records, however, West Derby Sept Qtr 8b 337 do show her as Emma Parkinson. I have not yet gained access to family search. If it is not too much trouble could you let me know what it says. Please accept my thanks for these new leads. Peter.
Bert - Thanks for your endeavours but I am confident that Hannah married Wm H Proctor in 1882 Birkenhead June Qtr. Peter.

Alison - A PS. I forgot to say that the 1881 census for 23 Dodge St does not show an Emma Parkinson or Smith so if she is still alive where can she be. As soon as one possibility appears, a new problem arises. O that searching for the family was easy!!!
