william dawson

Post by familytree_80 »

Hi I'm hoping someone can help me...
I'm looking for William James Dawson born 13th Aug 1895 11 westcott road although have seen his DOB as 1896 as well.
He was my granny's older brother and i understand he was very dear to her, the family story is that he was gassed in WW1
I can't find any military records nor a marriage or death
Equally confusing is that my dad couldn't remember him and thought he died due to his injuries, but another family member thought that he was alive in the 1930s possibly later....
could any one help please?
thank you :)

Mother's maiden name Every?

His birth was registered in the September quarter of 1895 as William Dawson.

He's in the 1939 Register with his widowed mother Ellen in Stonehill Street. He was a general labourer and an ARP warden.

There are 2 death registrations for William Dawson born 1895/96

1.

Name: William Dawson
Death Age: 56
Birth Date: abt 1895
Registration Date: Jun 1951
Registration district: Liverpool South
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 10d
Page: 560

2.
Name: William Dawson
Death Age: 64
Birth Date: abt 1896
Registration Date: Sep 1960
Registration district: Liverpool North
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 10d

those are the only 2 whose death was registered Liverpool.

You could apply for these 2 or carry out a obituary notice search in The Liverpool Echo for the Quarter that the deaths where registered.

I have a Private William Dawson twice in my wounded lists.

26th Oct 1916
Cheshire Regiment
Dawson
23438
William
Private
Liverpool

Wounded on or about 20th September 1916

23rd May 1918
Cheshire Regiment
Dawson
23438
William
Private
Liverpool.

Wounded on or about 15th April 1918

He was awarded the Silver War Badge and the details on this record tells us.

He enlisted 16th August 1915 and was discharged 5th October 1918 he was aged 23 when he was discharged giving his birth year as 1895.

This could possibly be him but I can't be 100% sure.

Hi,

The Liverpool Echo is not available online that cover the dates we are interested in. They are available on Micro Film at Liverpool Archives, 3rd Floor, William Brown Street.
