Can anyone help with details of Samuel Broughton my GGRandfather.
He was imprisoned in Walton Gaol for Grand Larceny and Theft in 1891 having been found guilty in May 1890.
He as discharged from the Kings Own Liverpool Company early in 1890 (Private 4641 A Company).
There are supposed reports of the details in the Liverpool mercury for June 2 and 11 1890 and also 21 August 1890 pge 8 and also for 29 October 1890. I have not been able to find these.
He would have been in the prison at the same time as the author Robert Noonan (Tressell) who was also in for Grand Larceny and Theft. I doubt they knew each other but Tressel lived in Queens Road while my GGRandfather lived in Amos Street (and others in Everton) which are quite near each other.
He is listed as a railway Shunter by profession.
Any help would be gratefully received.
With thanks.

Broughtons - Samuel
Re: Broughtons - Samuel
Liverpool Mercury 29th October 1890 has very poor quality details:
Samuel Broughton, 32, pointerman, breaking into several shops and dwellings in Walton and stealing books and pictures, three months.
Also Liverpool assizes 9th March 1891 in The Preston Herald, Samuel Broughton, burglary.
I will message you regarding the article in the Liverpool Mercury 21st August 1890.

Re: Broughtons - Samuel
"Saml Braughton
Age: 65
Birth Year: abt 1832 (1834)
Burial Date: 11 Mar 1897
Burial Place: Walton Park, Lancashire, England"
If this is possibly your man then he lies at Walton Park in plot S11 (1897)
There appears to be 2 entries for him with the birthdate being the only difference 2 years apart.
That contradicts his age as reported in the newspaper though.
The original newspaper references would likely be available on microfiche at Central Library.
