Roberts family

Post by DavidLancaster »

My great-great-grandmother, Margaret Roberts, was born in Liverpool in 1812-1816.

She married John Lancaster in Manchester in 1835, and is in Burnley in each subsequent census - in 1841 census (age 25 - i.e. 25-29, so born 1812-1816); in 1851 census (age 36, so born about 1815), in 1861 census (age 49, so born about 1812), in 1871 (age 55, so born about 1816), in 1881 (age 64, so born about 1817) and died in 1883 with her gravestone listing her age as 68 (so, born about 1815).

Does anyone have any information about the family of this Margaret Roberts in Liverpool? Or where I could look for such information?

Thank you in anticipation of any information or advice

David

Hi and welcome to the forum. What a pity she married just before civil registration giving no clue as to her father.

Hope we can find something useful for you.

Their first born was Evan Lancaster? I'd be tempted to look for the baptism of Margaret Roberts with a father, Evan, possibly in the Liverpool Welsh Chapels or similar.

This is a common name in Liverpool with the city's proximity to Wales and the many years of migration. As Bert said the name Evan chosen for one of the Lancaster children indicates a recent Welsh connection with Margaret's father or both father and mother possibly being Welsh. There are many possible candidates in the city's Church of England and Non-conformist (chapels) records. Did the Lancaster family leave any wills? Sometimes relationships can be established through a mention in a will.
