Hi, I wonder if someone would be kindly able to do a lookup for me ? I believe that John Scott and Jane Hodgson married on the 28th May 1841 at St Philip's in Liverpool. What I would really like to do is confirm that John was a widower at that time, and if possible I'd like to find out the name of his father (which I suspect will unsurprisingly be John Scott !).
Many thanks, Gordon.

Re: John Scott and Jane Hodgson marriage 1841
Bert, thank you very much. It wasn't quite what I expected but it's been extremely helpful.
It seems that there were at least two John Scotts with their families in Liverpool at that time, and both would appear to have been Master Pilots on the Mersey. The John Scott who married Jane Hodgson isn't the one I'm looking for.
The John Scott I'm looking for came from Fife in Scotland, and had at least four children - John, William, Robert and Euphemia, and I believe his wife was a Mary (Ritchie ? ). Euphemia Scott married a Charles Shaw around 1851, but he sadly died and she then married an Alexander Gray. She and her husband were witnesses to her brother John's marriage to Ruth Hudson. I'll now turn my attention to Scottish records. I've included this information here in case anyone else may have an interest in this family. I have a full family tree descending from John and Ruth Scott if anyone is interested.
Many thanks, Gordon.

Re: John Scott and Jane Hodgson marriage 1841
Thanks Blue,
I've now been able to determine that the John Scott from my family was NOT the John Scott that married Jane Hodgson. However, I do have the pilotage service record for him (passed to me by a member of the family who had done some research but gone down the wrong path) so if anyone would like to have a copy please let me know.
This exercise has been really useful though, because I've now found the John Scott I was looking for. He was born in Leven, Fife, in 1803, married Mary Ritchie, and then moved to Liverpool with his wife and children, John, William, Robert and Euphemia. He was also a mariner but he was a Master in the Merchant Navy. I found his Master's Certificate on Ancestry. I can now turn my attention to parish records for Scotland !
Thanks again for the lookups - they've been very helpful indeed.
Gordon.
