Pub in Athol Street

Post by erika »

Hope somebody maybe able to help with the name of a pub at 287 Athol Street in 1901.
Alexander Harvey was the manager there at that time.

Grateful for any answers :)

Thank you Bert, I had a choice of 2 and Clifford Arms was one of them.
Found a picture of it all boarded up on In a City Living website.

Thanks again :D

Hello, Erika
In 1909 the pub at 287 Athol Street was listed in an official record, but with no name. It was managed then by Frank Allam for Peter Walker & Son Ltd who leased the premises from Liverpool Corporation. It had 8 rooms for domestic purposes and had had only one licensee since 1900. There were 14 pubs in Athol Street then!

Hi Daggers

Sorry only just caught up with your post
Thank you for that information. I guess Alexander was only there for a short time and only was a manager not a licensee.
Not too important in my research, but he was a brother in law to a relative of mine ( sideways move) and the children were left orphans and I wondered if his family may have taken them in, as his son registered the death of one of the orphaned children. Complicated, but I'm not too concerned about it.

Thanks again, hope you are keeping well
