Hi everyone, a friend of mine came across some unusual "stones" near Crosby, and the star on it is extremely unusual, also the carving. She as wondering if anybody can make any suggestions as to what the purpose of the building would have been that it was on.
"Could anyone enlighten me on this piece of masonry i came across on coastline where rubble from the Liverpool Blitz was dumped post war. Looks like a crude 6 pointed star above styilised scroll of some sort. The pieces together look to create a large arch of entrance, as to what i do not know . Any ideas ?
I've studied symbolism in architecture and art , ..and craft and religion. I've never seen one like this. The scrolling is perfect so its not through crude workmanship. It could be from anywhere around, but the coastline is renowned for post war rubble and some pieces have been recognised from old photographs of the city. The golf course is built upon it and now that the sea is eating at the sand , it's revealing some lovely masonry. I cleaned this one up today to get a clear outline of it. I may get down to the library to go through some images to locate it once I get a lead on the symbol and scroll which will give the purpose of the building as a starting point."

" The star is a Unicursal Hexagram, It is used in Magical and Mystical rituals for Banishing and Invocations. Used within the Qabala tree of life as sacred Geometric representation of the body and the drawing of the planets. Aleister Crowley and Wiccans have, and do use it as a Talisman in rituals. Question is , where has it come from ? i do'nt know of any buildings that openly housed these practices. The difference between this Hexagram and the Star of David , is tje Unicursal has shortened points."

Could be associated with one of a number of fraternal organisations, the main one being, and still existing, the masons. It could be from a pub where an organisation regularly met at some point in the past. Esoteric symbols were used in plain sight for those with eyes to see and ears to hear and all that secret stuff. Or perhaps the architect was schooled in mysticism and fancied putting it into his work.

Thankyou so much for your response to my post, RE: Symbol on masonry found on Crosby coastline , and could you also say Thank you for me to the, Liverpool & Lancashire South West FHS who have given some really interesting ideas on the mystery, all of which have given me a good starting point. I hope to find out more, and maybe getting down to the library to look at some local archived pic's might help. It's great to have people show interest in what your doing and i really do appreciate all the feed back. I will certainly enjoy letting you know if i find anything about it. Thanks again guys x
