John Tisdale
John Tisdale
Hi I'm trying to find John Tisdale and his family (could be Teasdale?) born 1845ish in Liverpool. He lived in House 2, 6 Court, St Andrew Street. He died between 1881 and 1891 ( he wasn't on census that year?)
Re: John Tisdale

Than you. Yes he was a butcher, I'm trying to find anything about his parents, another John! A census for 1901 or 1911 would help.
Re: John Tisdale
Sorry census for 1891 or 1881
Re: John Tisdale
Just for info for others wanting to help, marriage of John Teesdale & Mary Elizabeth Fearon at St Simon CE Liverpool on 21 Dec 1873:-

Re: John Tisdale
I'm struggling to find a father called John. I keep being drawn to George Teasdale and Ellen Ellison who married at St Peter's Liverpool in 1837:-
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cat=122430
Here they are in 1841:-
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQ2Y-C7P
This could be John in 1851 with older sister Jane wrongly described as being his mother, younger brother William and grandmother not mother Betty:-
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SG5X-674
Mother Ellen died in 1847 aged 32 years and George married Ann Ellison in 1858 at St Peter's:-

Re: John Tisdale
Hi and welcome to the forum. Have you tried the GRO website to check for the mother's maiden name for John? https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/cert ... search.asp
Can you advise what evidence you have for his address in 1845 of House 2, 6 Court, St Andrew Street or was that the address he died at?
There are no birth entries for Tisdale but two for John Teasdale.
TEASDALE, JOHN mmn ELLISON
GRO Reference: 1844 M Quarter in LIVERPOOL Volume 20 Page 421
TEASDALE, JOHN mmn WITTER
GRO Reference: 1846 M Quarter in WEST DERBY Volume 20 Page 1119
The marriage for the first couple Blue has given a link to on familysearch, however at present I'm getting an error loading the image, the other also for a George Teasdale with a Jane Witter was at St Mary's, Kirkdale in 1843.
There is also a baptism of a Margaret in
Margaret Teasdale 19 Jul 1846 20 Aug 1846 Liverpool, St Michael Parents John and Elizabeth
This child's mother's maiden name is Thompson and the marriage was in 1846 St Michael in the City.
Could be worth bearing in mind if you have any clues, perhaps from the marriage certificate of witnesses names.

Re: John Tisdale
I think there's maintenance on the Family Search site at the moment affecting the images. Here is this family in 1881 at St Andrew Street and at Duckinfield Street in 1891 after John's death. I can't find a John Teasdale son of John born c1845 on the census records so I'm wondering if there's a mistake on the marriage record and maybe his father was actually George who married Ellen Ellison?:-

Wow, so much from so many, thank you all. Some bells ringing there but I'll have to view, read, copy etc and try to put it into what I've already got, not too much because I started too late to get first hand details!
I'll keep looking at my posts but if I don't get back promptly, forgive me - so much info. Thanks again

Re: John Tisdale
Usually the father on a marriage record is the signpost to further family members but in the absence of likely candidates and given that a John was born to George and Ellen at about the right time and George lived in the same part of Liverpool as John I'm going with the theory that there was a mistake on the marriage record and that John's father was George.

Well we would all seem to agree on that I believe, but are you happy that the marriage to go for is the one with "Ellison" and not the one with "Witter", both of whom married Georges.Blue70 wrote:Usually the father on a marriage record is the signpost to further family members but in the absence of likely candidates and given that a John was born to George and Ellen at about the right time and George lived in the same part of Liverpool as John I'm going with the theory that there was a mistake on the marriage record and that John's father was George.

Re: John Tisdale
I suspect the Witter child died aged 5, another child born 1854 and named John Teasdale to a mother recorded as Wetter, can't find a Teasdale/ Wetter marriage.
My concern would be, all of the George's mentioned as possible fathers, none are warehousemen and all seem to have the same occupation throughout all records as far as I could see.
This would mean, not only the wrong name recorded but the wrong occupation also.
As usual, the possibility has to be considered for a made up father for the purpose of marriage, no one liked leaving a blank or not known in that section.

Re: John Tisdale
I've done an edit on the burial of George Teasdale. I had the burial as 1870 but that George was the one who married Jane Witter at St Mary's Kirkdale in 1843 and had a second son called John Teasdale in 1854. The death/burial for George who married Ellen Ellison was in 1868. There's a probate record for the Teasdale/Witter George but there doesn't appear to be one for Teasdale/Ellison George.

Well, I have more info, many thanks. My wife is busy writing summary pages and there are some things that are now making possible sense.
I'm new to this other than doing an active (live) chat room some years ago which I can't find now! Because this is a post, can I reply to each individual contributor or is it ok to just reply to the ongoing post?
I can see I'm going to be kept busy but Lord help me when I try to trace my grandfathers family!
I'll be back, again many thanks.

Probably best to carry on using this thread and use the quote button to respond to specific posts. RootsChat has a chat room it might be that you are thinking of.

Thanks Blue. The chat room was very colourful, a black background with each person given a colour and receiving a welcome when they entered the room, probably defunct now!Blue70 wrote:Probably best to carry on using this thread and use the quote button to respond to specific posts. Re: John Tisdale
We hope you have found some of these results useful, thanks to the guys for eliminating the Teasdale/Witter child.
You are better to respond on this thread as then others would be able to see each individual reply as someone other than the one the message is intended for might get a sudden spark from the conversation and be able to chime in with a pertinent suggestion.
