Burial St Marys Church Penketh
Searching for any evidence (church record, gravestone) of the death and burial of my ggmother Elizabeth Stevens/Gandy/Keeling between her marriage to Thomas Keeling in 1893 in Widnes and the 1901 census. Elizabeth was born in 1859 in Sankey/Penketh. Eric Gandy http://www.gandyfamily.se

I think where she was living in 1891 might be better help.

If you use FreeBMD and put in those dates, choosing both Cheshire and Lancashire gives just five results.

Deaths Mar 1898
Keeling Elizabeth 45 Nantwich 8a 222
Deaths Sep 1898
Keeling Elizabeth 58 Hayfield 7b 504
Deaths Mar 1899
Keeling Elizabeth 52 W. Derby 8b 245
Deaths Jun 1899
Keeling Elizabeth 62 Bucklow 8a 148
Deaths Dec 1899
Keeling Elizabeth 35 W. Derby 8b 361

I think the West Derby ones are unlikely and possibly also the Hayfield which appears to be more Derbyshire than Cheshire, but the Nantwich and Bucklow ones might be worth looking into and I hope the age might be able to narrow it down for you.

Is the church you mentioned St Mary's Great Sankey? If so I can't find a burial record between 1893-1901. The images are here from January 1893:-

Just posting some relevant information from your website:-

"After his marriage to Elizabeth in 1893 we know that Thomas returned to his birthplace Alton, where he is recorded in the 1901 Census age 38, general labourer in Alton Parish, Staffordshire. He is registered as married and lodging with George and Harriet Weaver, Alton Village, St Peter’s Parish, but there is no record of Elizabeth.

In the 1911 Census Thomas Keeling age 48, head of household, registered as widower and gardener on estate, was living with his neice Mary Elsie Pattinson, and four children Mary 9, Arnold 7, Thomas 4, William 2, at Smelting Mill Cottage, Alton. She died in 1909 aged 33 years, possibly giving while birth to son William."

Is this Alton in Staffordshire? could they both have gone there and perhaps be where Elizabeth died?

Elizabeth Keeling
Thank you for response, Mary A and Blue. Of course I did mean the St Mary's in Great Sankey. In 1891 Elizabeth was living with her parents at the Van Tromp Beerhouse in Marsh Street, West bank, Widnes. Last known record was her marriage in 1893 at St Ambrose church. Elizabeth's parents died in 1898/1902 but she was not mentioned in either of the wills.

I have devoted much time to hunting for her in Alton, Staffordshire, where there are many Keelings, but with no success. So I thought perhaps she might have returned to Great Sankey or her family in Widnes.
Cheers
