Re: Hampson Family
You obviously have a lot of information, can you tell us if it is only descendants you are searching for or are we able to help with any historical information? If so, perhaps you could give the full details from the marriage certificate of William and Elizabeth as the father's names, occupations, witnesses etc. are very helpful.

Re: Hampson Family
thanks Mary,
I thought I had given enough information without making things too complicated.
(From the marriage certificate).
William spenser hampson was the son of joseph hampson, a miner, born about 1890 Elizabeth Boyle born abt 1895 ? daughter of owen boyle. Believed to have been irish descent.
Other than that I know nothing about them at all.
Would like some help finding out what happened to william and elizabeth.
Their son william A Hampson emigrated to australia with his family (including my mum), and it is unknown what happened to them. (william and elizabeth)
My mother tells me that her grandmother elizabeth hampson (nee boyle) was only 15 when they married.
My mum has a pretty good memory, and I believe that several of the children are still living in Bootle, am hoping also that someone may know of the real family story of william and elizabeth.
greatly appreciate any assistance given.

Re: Hampson Family
thank you bert,
particularly the information on his service. Where on earth did you find that information.
I did contact the archives as his regimental number does not seem to appear on any records that I have found. Unfortunately was told that many of the records had been destroyed in world war 2 blitz.
I did locate the 1901 census listing but wasn't sure if this was correct one.
thank you for your help. That's awesome information.

Re: Hampson Family
It does appear any service or pension records were destroyed,
Medal Card,

Having his date of birth may help track the family, 1939 register, I'm sure some kind soul will look.

Hi Bert,
I have no idea how you found this, as I have tried everywhere for information on his service.
Thank you. My mum will have to come out of "thenile" now.
She still maintains that her grandfather was irish, and that he never served in the forces.
Back to your last post, I don't understand what this is. Could you please explain.
Thankyou again. sharene

Hi Sharene,
The link is an explanation of the 1939 register, I haven't got full access to it, to see if its the correct family.
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/1939registe ... 9-register
What was Owen Boyle's occupation on the marriage cert, does it mention if he was deceased, what address were given for both?

Re: Hampson Family
Hi Mary A
Thank you for all of your help. It is wonderful what additional records are available in the local family area i am researching.
William Spenser and elizabeth Hampson were my great grandparents.
William Alfred Hampson, eldest surviving son, married Ruth Mawdsley 1938 in Bootle.
They lived in linacre lane, rice lane, then ibstock road before emigrating.
William and Ruth hampson emigrated to Australia, with the children. They have since passed on.
My mum was born Rice Lane 1938, and is still living along with most of her siblings. Their sister Denise (of twins) passed away quite young, in 2012.
Mum still has all her faculties, and remembers quite well the bombings of world war 2. She has also been the greatest help in putting everything she knows and remembers about the family on paper, as the basis of my research.
A note to self and all those budding genies, ask the questions, go through photos and then go through them again with the oldies. even with demtia if you ask again down the road, they will often remember different things to last time.
kind regards, sharene

Re: Hampson Family
Bert,
I got access to the 1939 National Household register.
this is the correct family. I can see children Gerard and James christopher listed.
From this record I see elizabeth's birth listed as 16 september 1894.
William is listed as a Heavy leather Carver, but this is incorrect transcript. It is Tanner. He worked as Dyer at Johnsons.
Really appreciate your assistance.
Regards,

Re: Hampson Family
Hi bert,
after a couple of hectic weeks at work and then the christmas period, I finally got back to the site.
Thank you for all your help.
My mother on the other hand is not convinced, even with the certificates that I have ordered placed in front of her. But never mind.
In answer to your question.
29th February 1916, st james chestnut grove, Bootle.
William Hampson, 26, Bachelor, Private RGA, 55 denbigh street, Bootle. Father Joseph Hampson, deceased, Coal miner.
Elizabeth Boyle, 21, spinster, domestic servant, 53 denbigh street, Bootle. Father Owen Boyle, deceased, Farm Labourer.
Witnesses - William Monaghan, M. Callan.
Roman Catholic, charles joseph Moah.
I did order a search for his birth entry in the registry, as there was no entry in the index. It was located and received this yesterday.
William was born 8th june 1889, Station Road, Rainhill, R.S.D. parents joseph hampson a butcher and journeyman, Edith formerly williams, of station Road, Rainhill.
The Baptism I located for william, at st ann's rainhill states that joseph was a carter, so was not sure if it was correct.
