John Frost

Post by Daisy 3 »

Can someone tell me if there are any records for St Peters still existing from1750s. I have hit the brick wall and am hoping someone can suggest another angle. I have a John Frost married 10th Dec 1753 to Eliz Hindley at St Peters, image only on Ancestry, so no further information. His son's baptism in 1756 states he is a sailor, living in crooked lane, which means he could have come from anywhere into Liverpool.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There are a lot of records for St Peter's on https://familysearch.org/ and you could also try http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ however prior to 1837 you will not get any more information than what you already have as this was the date when Civil Registration began and the format of certificates became a lot more useful. The Record Office will hold the most, dating back to when the church originally opened.

You will need to try to find earlier records showing the parents' baptisms. They may well have come from outside Liverpool and it is difficult to identify possible matching records from this time. There's very little chance of finding a Liverpool record at this time mentioning the origins of people born outside Liverpool.

I posted a c1950 map that includes the location of Crooked Lane last year. Here's another map from c1851:-

Thank you both Mary and Blue for your speedy reply's, the street map really brings them to life. I have found a Thomas Frost, married in St Nicholas in 1749, living in Fazakerly St, and in 1751 living in Covent Garden, he also was a sailor, do you think it's possible that they where brother's, as I don't think that Frost was too common a name. I would be grateful for your thoughts.

It's certainly possible with the dates but not to be taken for granted. You can see both of those streets on a modern day map as they are still there, near to each other.

Have you checked for any Wills?

I haven't found the 1753 marriage register page but the LAN-OPC transcription confirms that John Frost was a sailor:

Marriage: 10 Dec 1753 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
John Frost - Sailr.
Eliza. Hindley - Spinster

Should John and Thomas be siblings, worth noting, both their first born were named William, their fathers name perhaps?

Thank you everyone for your interest and advice, I have tried to follow the Hindley connection, also the possibility of John and Thomas being brother's, but unfortunately can find nothing that can prove beyond doubt that I have the right people, I suppose that when it is so far back you have to make that leap of faith.Thank you all once again.
