Traveler from Sweden via Liverpool to Australia

Hello! I really do not know if I'm on the right track here, but let's try! I am a swedish historian, looking for a swedish traveler who went to Liverpool in the summer of 1853 to board the ship Goldfinder, heading for Australia. Does anyone know if there are records somewhere in Liverpool in which I would be able to see 1) when this traveler arrived in Liverpool and from which swedish port he came, and 2) when Goldfinder left Liverpool? The traveler was Per Reinhold Carlsson (sometimes Peter Rumbold Charleston or similar alternative spellings), born in Sweden in 1821. Goldfinder arrived in Australia in October 1853.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I have had a look for passenger lists in 1853 and found a Carl Carlsson, farmer, native country of Sweden, who arrived London from New York 7 July 1853 on the Mayan Evans, but I'm assuming your ancestor came from Sweden so likely no connection.

Do you have any idea which shipping line the Goldfinder belonged to?

I know the answer to that one. The Goldfinder belonged to the Fox Line.

We struggled with a similar question of travel records when "Danish" was asking about his Mellon family. My own great, great grandmother came to Grimsby, England in 1853 from Germany via the port of Rotterdam. I've never found any English travel records but we have their "passport" document that shows their movements in Germany and Holland.

Do we know the ship number? Could the archive in Newfoundland have the passenger list from Liverpool to Australia? (a lot of British maritime records are at St John's, Newfoundland, Canada)

Goldfinder arrived at the Port of Melbourne 23rd October 1853. She carried 524 passengers.
Peer Carlson, age 32, was an unassisted passenger (paid his own fare).

The Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) holds the passenger list.

A lot of European emigrants came to Liverpool via the port of Hull. I remember some Jewish people recreating their ancestors' journey by ship to Hull then train to Liverpool then ship from Liverpool to the USA.

"The Wilson Line started a regular route between Scandinavia and Hull, England as early as 1850. The first route was established to carry the mail between Sweden, Norway and England with a departure from Gothenburg every second Saturday, calling at Christiansand on the way to Hull. The first sailing started June 29th 1850 when the the S/S Courier mastered by Captain Rich. Rayner departed from Hull. From 1853 the Christiania and Gothenburg route was maintained by the S/S Courier and the S/S Scandinavian. Later also a third ship, the S/S Jupiter was set in the service. From 1854 the route between Christiania, Christiansand and Hull was maintained by the Courier and the Scandinavian. In those days the voyage across the North Sea usually lasted about 52 hours. In 1855 only the Courier was used on the route between Christiania and Hull, occasionally relieved by the Scandinavian or an other ship. These ships occasionally carried a few passengers who intended to emigrate vi Britain. To meet competition from a Norwegian steamship company, the Wilson Line established a route between Christiania and London, and a route between Christiania and Hamburg. These two routes were soon to be given up."

Thank you so much for all the replies! The Peer Carlson that Louis mentiones is indeed this traveler. I have tracked him from his arrival in Melbourne until his death in 1874, and also from his birth in 1821 until 1850. However, from 1850 to 1853 he is hard to track. I will try the Hull lead! Thank you once again!
