Griffin Family
James Griffin and Maria Griffin, both born in Co Mayo.
I want to know or find an address/location in co mayo where they once lived before they moved.
They later moved to Kerfoot Street in Warrington.
Census for James Griffin:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QKXF-579H
Census for Maria Griffin (maden name: Maria Stanton):
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QKXF-579C
With the information i had before finding the census, i only knew 4 of the children:
Margaret Griffin, John Griffin, Edward Griffin and Mary Griffin.
(This is also the only census that has these extra names that follow..)
I didn't know about: James Griffin (Son), Ellen Griffin and Elizabeth Griffin. I would love to find out more about these three, What has happened to them?
I have read other threads and have seen that you researching forward to living relations is a not a common thing this community does. But i would love to know/find James Griffin (1916) siblings as they would be my cousins.
I appreciate any help given, thankyou for reading.

Re: Griffin Family
My concern with Brian's enquiry was that the John Griffin who married Ellen Henry did not appear to be the John Griffin who was the son of James and Maria Griffin of Kerfoot Street. Brian had and still has two John Griffins on his Ancestry tree, one born in 1866 and one born in 1876. In order to try to establish where they came from you need to first make sure you have the right parents for your John Griffin. Brian's John Griffin is not the 14 year old on the 1881 Census at Kerfoot Street. Brian's John Griffin would have been about 4 or 5 years old in 1881. We haven't been able to find him on the 1881 Census. In 1891 John is living with his grandmother Margaret Stanton, an uncle and another grandson Thomas Griffin who could be a brother. Thomas Griffin and a Michael Griffin were in the Workhouse in 1881 so it appears that John Griffin's early life was unsettled and he may have been missed off the 1881 Census.

Re: Griffin Family
Presuming your ancestor was John Griffin born 1876 in Warrington then it's important that we clear up the confusion over his parentage. We were interested in the contents of the marriage certificate of John Griffin born 1876 in Warrington who married Ellen Henry to see who his father was. There is only one birth registered around 1876 in Warrington of a John Griffin and the birth certificate should show the names of both parents so this record would be useful:-
Name: John Griffin
Registration Year: 1876
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Registration district: Warrington

Re: Griffin Family
I can confirm that the information is correct, i have the marriage certificate of John Griffin & Ellen Henry dated 1899 with the parentage James Griffin (John's father) and Mathew Henry (Ellen's father). I have a copy of the marriage Certificate.
Hopefully this helps with the confusion and can help with my questions.
Thank you,
Luke.

No the information you have is wrong the 1881 family has a John Griffin who is 14 years old can't you see that? What is John's age on the marriage certificate? What is the occupation of the father? Who are the witnesses? What addresses are on the certificate? We have a problem in that the family at Kerfoot Street on the 1881 Census is not your John's family. Your John was born in 1876. The birth certificate would be more useful as it has both parents' names, mother's maiden name and an address at birth.

Re: Griffin Family
If both John Griffin born 1866 and John Griffin born 1876 had fathers called James Griffin we may be able to identify each of them on the death indexes. There is a James Griffin who died in Warrington in 1876 aged 30 years around the time of your John Griffin's birth he could be his father and the death of his father may have dispersed the family as they tried to cope with the loss. The Kerfoot Street James Griffin who is not your ancestor appears to have died in 1901. Here are both death indexes:-

Re: Griffin Family
I found a possible marriage of the Michael Griffin who could be your John Griffin's brother, he was in the Workhouse in 1881 with Thomas Griffin. Thomas Griffin was living with your John Griffin, their uncle Hugh Stanton and their grandmother Margaret Stanton in 1891. The James Griffin recorded as the father of Michael who was probably the father of your John was a bricklayer and is noted as being deceased at the time of this marriage:-
Marriage: 9 Dec 1897 St Peter, Warrington, Lancs.
Michael Griffin - 26, Labourer, Bachelor, 65, Foundary St.
Margaret Jordan - 25, Spinster, 63, Foundary St.
Groom's Father: James Griffin, (deceased), Bricklayer
Bride's Father: Samuel Jordan, Labourer
Witness: John Thomas Jordan; Edith Letitia Whalley
Married by Banns by: B. Percival

Re: Griffin Family
Both families appear to be James & Mary combinations (Maria sometimes used as it's the Latin for Mary). Here are the two marriages for these two different couples:-

Re: Griffin Family
The names in this thread are common in Lancashire and in Ireland so I would suggest if you want to ensure that your tree is accurate that you buy certificates to make sure each link is proved. I would recommend getting the birth certificate for John Griffin born in 1876 in Warrington. Then if his parents are James Griffin and Mary Stanton, get their marriage certificate to see who their fathers were. After that you can try to find the families on the Irish records. Accessing the Warrington Roman Catholic parish records would be useful I've asked for a look-up on another site to try to get transcripts of the baptisms for the two John Griffins:-
