merchants in Liverpool c 1680- David Poole ect...

Looking for information on the Poole family in Liverpool at this time.
Have a proposed marriage - by bond- At Manchester, between David Pool (e) Liverpool merchant, & Elizabeth Massie of Manchester.
who could possibly be the sister of William Massie Esq, of Audlem & Denfield in Cheshire.
The proposed marriage is dated 2 February 1679.
Bondsmen Henri Rycroft, and John Wignall.

No marriage appears to have taken place.

Later in 1692, William leaves provision for his sister Elizabeth, then 37, providing she does not marry any son of David Poole. William was married to a Barbara Poole, , and also provides for his mother in law."Mother Poole".

Should like to know more about this Poole family. Possibly from Runcorn....

If the Poole family were from Liverpool the place to search would be the archives at Liverpool Record Office, https://liverpool.gov.uk/libraries/arch ... y-history/ however if as you suggest they were from the Runcorn area the best place to enquire would I think be the Cheshire Archives which hold items about Runcorn http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.u ... /A13532852

I have used the CRO many times ,but with a specific request. And sometimes as a commissioned query of research.
I have also found that for other parts of Cheshire Warrington library are as useful.

But since my enquiry is fairly general about David's Poole , and his connections in the trades of Liverpool . I have not approached them. I don't have any dates ,apart from his proposed marriage.

I think for that time period you would need to ask Liverpool Record Office about what resources are available. Have you tried looking at any of the various online free books that have been uploaded? They can be time consuming going through but you can find interesting stuff. For example looking at "Liverpool in King Charles the second's time" by Sir Edward Moore written in the year 1667-68 in the appendix on page 170 there is a John Poole living in Dale Street.

There's various mentions going way back they may not be all from the same family. During the Wars of the Roses there was an outrage involving a Liverpool man called William Poole in 1437, "one of the family of Poole, of Poole Hall in Wirral, Cheshire, connected by marriage with the Stanleys of Hooton..." - 'Memorials of Liverpool (Vol 1) by Sir James Picton (1875)'.

Thank you for that interesting snippet.

From the statement in the 1692 will, David Poole must have had a couple of sons, and was perhaps the father in law to William Massie, being the father of his wife Barbara Poole, One of the signatures to the will is a Raph Poole.
As = Hassall Wibunbury, Richard Hassall, Raph Poole, Theodosia Hobson.

I suppose that Elizabeth Massie may have gone to Manchester to marry this David Poole, Merchant of Liverpool.in Feb 1679, but somehow objections were raised, although she was born in 1655, so over age.
The bondsman being Henri Rycroft and John Wignall, I wonder if they lost financially in this transaction?

There is quite a lot to investigate, perhaps i am best trying to plot out their family connections to William Massie, of The Moss audlem & Denfield, Rostherne parish. Cheshire.

I thought you might like to know that David Poole incurred a fine at Preston church for unlawfully allowing Michael Briscough a clerk to preach c1672.

He turns up again in 1684/85 alongside his son Samuel, a child, and William Massie when the take a lease of of land for about 50 (3 Lives)years, in My Lords Street Liverpool with permission to build, 150 yards front , with 3 gates for carts. This is leased from Caryll, Viscount Molyneux, and the Hon william Molyneux,
