William Thomas Walker

William Thomas Walker was born in Liverpool on 23 Sep 1894. We are pretty sure he was a Merchant Seaman, probably a stoker, in WW1 and he may have been a survivor after the Laurentic was sunk off the coast of Ireland. So far I have been unable to find any information about his Merchant Seaman days so I wondered if you could help?

Have you checked the Merchant Navy records on FindMyPast? They have his CR 10 identity certificate (complete with photo), and a list of the official numbers of the ships that he served on 1919-1920.

Thanks Alan for your post. I knew nothing about the sinking of the Laurentic, I've googled and found lots of information about the disaster. So very sad, so many lost their lives. I hope you find the records you are looking for.

It looks as though Lincolnshire Library services have access to Ancestry and Findmypast websites so if you live near a library you could go in and use your library to access both the above websites (and the British Newspaper Archives).

The official Admiralty list of Laurentic survivors was published in various newspapers on 29 January 1917. The only Walker named is a J Walker, fireman.
