William Augustine CARNEY d. 26 Nov 1965 at Whelley Hospital, Wigan aged 72 - he lived at 149 Bolton Road, Ashton in Makerfield:
I am speculating he is buried at St Oswald & St Edmund Arrowsmith's - or could he be in a Catholic section of a cemetery or even have been cremated?
- aside - ( has anyone ever researched the this Arrowsmith clan? )
any advice on this issue most appreciated, thank you
PS:
his widow Lily CARNEY died about Feb 1986
a daughter Marie Elicia HAYES about 1977
and an infant son Vincent CARNEY about 1932
(hoping they are reunited in the same plot)
thank you!

At that date I would suspect that there was an obit in the local newspaper, hopefully you would find that it mentions the location of the burial or funeral.
St Helens Cemetery/Crematorium could also be likely.

I got Lily's will today - she died on the 09th Feb 1986 - she owned 145, 147 & 149 Bolton Road, A-in-M all left to her daughter and only surviving child - sad really that the other two died before her!

It is very sad, I think parents would mourn more for their child than the other way round,

Re: Catholic Burials - Ashton in Makerfield
Hi there,
Did you have any luck with burial details? Are you local to Ashton?
If the family were buried, as oppose to cremated, and were Catholic and living in Ashton I think they would almost certainly be in St Oswald's Church cemetery.
I am no longer local but have many relatives buried there. I was back there in the summer to attend the funeral of my Uncle (last of the generation). I spent an hour or so looking around the graveyards for other relatives. I believe (from a cousin) that there is someone who looks after the graveyards (possibly the grave digger) and who has access to the plot details, but I'm afraid I don't know any more details. Incidentally, my Dad lived at 171 Bolton Road in the 1930s.
Not sure I've been any help but nice to touch base with people who share a past.
Chris

as per PM - I did post a message on the church's facebook page - they said they'd have a look but they didn't get back to me!
