BRANDON(M) Coachman

Post by TamlynUK »

I have an ancestor William BRANDON (or BRANDOM) born about 1791 not in Lancashire, but who lived in Everton most of his life. He married Sarah ARTHER in 1810 at St Peter Liverpool and was a Coachman in 1854 and a Gentleman's Man in 1861. He had a son William Shaw BRANDON (b 1822) who was a plumber in Liverpool and I have a to of information about him - he is my great-grandfather.

I cannot find any further data about William Senior nor about his wife Sarah ARTHER. Any data or hints would be helpful

Regards

Tam

Can you give us the references for the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses that you have found him on.

When did he die?

I'm confused, I believe I may have found him in 1841, occupation Coachman, but he's living in Garston Village. He doesn't appear to be with family.

I had assumed (shouldn't have) that you had him on '51 and '61 census, so no death date and no census to give his place of birth.
1791 not in Lancashire, but who lived in Everton most of his life.
At least the directory entry I found of Duke Street is correct, this would be in town itself rather than Everton, and the 1841 entry in Garston is the south end of Liverpool.

There's a brother William baptised in Liverpool in 1790 of the sister you have listed as Mary baptised in 1796 but this William is recorded as William Brandreth:-

William Brandreth - Son of William Brandreth & Mary
Born: 6 May 1790
Abode: Darwin street
Occupation: Sawyer

Here's one possible candidate to note down for future scrutiny:-

Name: William Brandon
Baptised: 1 Jul 1781
Church: St Peter, Marchington, Staffordshire
Father: John Brandon
Mother: Hannah

Mother's surname is Robotham. There are trees for this family on Ancestry but no marriage or death information so it's possible he left the county.

Thanks for all the data. It gives me something to research. However the Census of 1841 says he was born outside Lancashire. There are a lot of "William BRANDON & BRANDOM's not born in Lancashire :(

To further my previous sending :-

I have now looked at the original of William's baptismal record and the surname is clearly BRANDRETH. It seems unlikely that this was an error for BRANDON, so I am still hunting for the birth of William around 1790 (outside Lancashire) and of Sarah ARTHER inside Lancashire

Yes I pointed out that the sister in your list Mary born 1796 was called Brandreth not Brandon. Her brother William and other siblings were all called Brandreth so the Mary in your list is wrong she was a Brandreth not a Brandon.
