Charles Bertram Scott
Charles Bertram Scott
My grandad was in the police in Liverpool till he retired about 1950. Early retirement i think as he was around 50 then. He died in 1958. His name was Charles Bertram Scott. I know he was in the 3rd Hussars in 1915 when he married and my dad was born in Folkestone in 1916. I have tried to find out when he came to Liverpool but the sites i have looked at do not go beyond 1916 so i am struggling to find anything. They lived in a police house by Mather Avenue in 1940's when my nan died.
Any suggestions of where i could find more recent information. I have got his number somewhere.
I have found them on the 1939 register living in the police house. I would like to know when they came to Liverpool and if my dad went to school here. My dad was an only child and my nan died before i was born and i was only 6 when my grandad died so i never knew any of my dads family. I have all their births and deaths.

Re: Charles Bertram Scott
The 1938 Directory has a Chas. Scott, police constable, at 26 Anstey Road, Old Swan.
Re: Charles Bertram Scott
Hi Retiring Type
Thanks for that info. Not sure if it is him as in 1939 he is living at 3 South Grove, Greenhill Road. My mum didn't marry him till 1950 and he was still at that address then and my mum always said he lived in a police house.
In 1939
Charles B Scott DOB 8 Apr 1891 police constable 294H
Sarah A Scott DOB 21 May 1881 Housewife
His wife was 10 years older than him and she had been married before. Her first husband died and they had no children.
Frederick A Scott 2 Jan 1916 Radial and Fair Spindle Duller Aircraft. My dad was single then and i would love to know what that job means. I presume he may have worked at Liverpool Airport??
Thanks

Re: Charles Bertram Scott
I reckon that is "Radial & Four Spindle Driller"Radial and Fair Spindle Duller
Re: Charles Bertram Scott
The information for the 1938 directory was probably collected in 1937 so you could have a period of two years between the directory entry and the 1939 Register record. Two other policemen living in the same street. One of the other policemen is a great uncle of John Bishop. Looking at the 1939 Register address search results 26 Anstey Road is missing presumably unoccupied suggesting the directory entry could be your Grandad.

Re: Charles Bertram Scott
Thanks retiring type and Blue. I know that they lived at South Grove in 1939 but i wanted to know if i can find out how long they had lived there before 1939. They may have been here as early as 1921 in which case my dad must of gone to school here. It's a long wait till the next census. Any one any ideas to find them say after 1920 and before 1939.
Sorry Blue just reread your post. I don't think it is them as my mum always said my dad lived by the Police training depot. I can see it now but i'm not sure if it is on Menlove Avenue it's a long time since i have been that way. No one ever mentioned Old Swan and we didn't live to far from there, West Derby. Mum used to shop in the Swan sometimes and it was never mentioned.
Thanks

Re: Charles Bertram Scott
Looking on the electoral rolls should sort it out. Check both these addresses and see if it's the same man or two different men.

Re: Charles Bertram Scott
The Watch Committee Minutes will help establish when he became a Police Officer in Liverpool. The Ref is 352 WAT. You will have to go backwards from 1939or forwards from 1916 and there should be a record of him in there when he became part of Liverpool City Police.

Re: Charles Bertram Scott
Thanks Katie. Will this be in the Liverpool library, and is it available without booking.
Re: Charles Bertram Scott
They are in the Liverpool Record office and you have to make an appointment. I have tried to find the Reference for you but it's not coming up. You can send them a email telling them what records you want to search.
