This is my 2nd Gt Grandmother. She married 23 Aug 1852 a Alexander Walter Crichton who was a Millwright at St Johns Preston in Lancashire.
I believe they had 3 children Mary Jane Crichton 1853-1903, (I follow down her line), John Sweeney Crichton 1855-1819, Isabella Betsy Crichton 1857 - ?
Her Baptism I have as
25 Jul 1824 • St Anthony's, Lancashire, England
LDS Ref Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C02318-6 , System Origin: England-EASy , GS Film number: 396379 , Reference ID: v 2 p 107
I have her father as a Roger / Rodger McGill (various spellings). He is a Stonemason. I have him in 1841 at:-
Sub-registration district Howard Street
Piece 557
Book 10
Folio 37
Page number 25
I am unsure if he is Catholic / Protestant or Scottish / Irish.
Can anyone tell me anything more please.
Thank you
Veegeeh

Re: McGill / Magell / Magill Mary 1824-1864
Hi and welcome to the forum.
The baptism at St Anthony's is indeed the Liverpool one indicating that they would have been RC. A few other likely births/baptisms at the same place
Name/Birth/Baptism/Church/Father and Mother
John McGaill 10 Jul 1818 13 Jul 1818 St Anthony's Roger Mcgaill, Mary Mcgaill - Sponsors Denis & Ann Henderick
Margaret Mc Gill 7 Nov 1812 15 Nov 1812 St Anthony's Roger Mc Gill, Mary Mc Gill - Sponsors John McGarry and Catherine Henrick
Robert McGall 6 Dec 1814 11 Dec 1814 St Anthony's Rodger Mcgall, Mary Mcgall - Sponsor Mary Murphy
Sponsors of your Mary are James Black and Bridget Dorothee
So I'm suspecting the marriage was before 1812, although I don't see it in the Liverpool RC marriages.
Might be worth investigating the Henderick/Henricks as they would seem to be either long standing friends or relatives, it could be that they were related to Mary?

Re: McGill / Magell / Magill Mary 1824-1864
Thank you so much - I've had more success thanks to this forum in 1 day than in years on this line.
There are so many different spellings.
I'll need to delve into this but I'm thinking as an aside thought. Roger must have been an apprentice somewhere surely, he couldn't have just started working as a Stonemason.
The plot thickens.
Veegeeh.

Marriage: 23 Aug 1852 St John, Preston, Lancs.
Alexander Crichton - 32, Millwright, Bachelor, Bolton St. West
Mary McGill - 24, Dressmaker, Spinster, North Road
Groom's Father: John Crichton, Millwright
Bride's Father: Late Roger McGill, Marble Mason
Witness: Thomas Woodhouse; Christiana Woodhouse
Married by Banns by: S Hastings Curate
Register: Marriages 1852, Page 145, Entry 290
Source: LDS Film 93994
Roger's first wife Mary died in 1819 and was buried at St John's CE Liverpool (see below) but I can't find a second marriage for him with another Mary who would have been the mother in the 1824 baptism.

Hi
The 1841 shows he was born in Ireland but I can't find a death between 1841-1852 to establish his age. He was 55 in 1841 but could have been between 55-59

Re: McGill / Magell / Magill Mary 1824-1864
Might be worth trawling through some of the links on this page
https://www.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/ ... =14&t=5739
There are a LOT of different pages especially on the Old Mersey Times site where I've found it worthwhile to do an Alt E, Find down the page as they are often too long to read down them - try searching for "Gill" or perhaps "mason".

Re: McGill / Magell / Magill Mary 1824-1864
Thank you. Everyone has been so helpful. Thank you seems a bit inadequate but it's all I can think of.
I have a death for Roger in West Bromwich Staffordshire in 1849. His daughter Margaret 1812 married a Patrick MacIntyre and was living there - I believe he was with them.

Re: McGill / Magell / Magill Mary 1824-1864
Death was registered March qtr 1849 as MacGill but has not been transcribed on either www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk or www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk so unfortunately his birthyear is guesswork 1782-1786
